Interfaces are overlays on the game that allow the user to interact with it. The ribbon contains buttons to open specific interfaces. Some interfaces can be quickly accessed by the use of the hotkeys (see below).
By default, there are interfaces that cannot be closed. Other interfaces are opened by the user and can be closed at any time. The default interfaces are:
- Chat - This includes all chat windows. Although you cannot close any of the chat windows, you may detach them from the main group.
- Action bar - The action bar controls your player in combat. For this reason, the action bar may only be minimised, not closed.
- Minimap - Shows the minimap and contains non-customisable sub-buttons (see image right).
- The logout button displays a popup to exit to lobby or login upon being clicked. The button does not display if Slims Headers, Hide title bars when locked and Lock interface customisation is checked; clicking the options menu is the secondary way to exit the game.
- The compass shows the direction the camera is facing and turns the camera north if a player clicks on it.
- The run energy button shows the player's current run energy level and toggles run on and off if a player clicks on it.
- The home teleport button opens up the Lodestone Network interface.
- The world map button opens the world map in a full screen view.
The ribbon is the main bar where other interfaces can be opened up by the player. The buttons it contains are listed below:
The Hero tab is an interface that came about from the NIS or New Interface System what was released alongside Runescape 3. The Summary tab contains most player statistics like Skills, total experience, coin amount in Money Pouch, Quests completed, and Achievements/Tasks completed. The Skills tab contains skill advancing guides for all skills. The Pets tab contains Pets that have been purchased from the Solomon's General Store and the Achievements tab contains all of a players Task information.
Gear is another interface that came about from the NIS. The Loadout tab contains a player's Backback, Worn Equipment, and Combat Stats. The Wardrobe, Titles, Animations, and Appearance tabs contain cosmetic overrides from the Solomon's General Store.
The Adventures tab contains the latest content, Quests, Challenges, suggested Minigames and Distractions and Diversions. The Adventures tab was previously called the Noticeboard; it has all the same features excluding the Achievements which have been moved to the Hero tab.
The Powers tab in the control panel contains all Abilities and allows customization of a player's Action bar. It also contains Prayers/Curses that a player has unlocked. A player can change what experience they receive while in combat and can also check what some abilities/prayers do by dragging them where it says Power Name where it lists a description, cooldown, and requirements.
The Social tab contains HiScores, Activity Steam, and Chat settings. The HiScores tab allows for players to compete in Seasonal highscore races, check current ranks in all stats and all currents ranks in all Activities. The Activity Steam allows for players to view their friend's recent accomplishments as well as their own as well as contact friends via private message. The Chat Settings contains Clan and Friends chat information and color customization for other chat features.
The Extras tab on the control panel contains the Squeal of Fortune which allows players a chance to win experience, resources, and multiple other prizes and the Solomon's General Store allows for players to purchase Runecoins for use in buying Cosmetic overrides, pets, emotes, and animations.
The Help interface contains a brief explanation of what Runescape 3, the New User Interface, the Evolution of Combat, and World Events currently taking place. New players will find this useful as it provides a free teleport to the Combat Academy, and other useful information on how to set up a fully customized interface.
Hitting the Escape key(Esc) opens up the Options interface which allows players edit their Gameplay, Interface, Controls, Graphics, and Audio options to their liking. The Edit Mode option lets players edit their 3D World, Minigame HUD (Heads Up Display), and all of their Gameplay HUDs. These Gameplay HUDs consist of: Area Status, XP Tracker, Crafting Progress, Central Interface, Subscribe(Free players) Buffs/Debuffs, Game Dialog, Task Complete, New Task, Bank, Grave timer, and Grave Interface. The Minimap, Action Bar, Control Panel, and All chat can be resized without being within Edit Mode as long as the Lock Interface Customization is left unchecked in the Interface settings.

Action BarEditThe Action bar came about through the Evolution of Combat and its main function is to quickly select and use nearly any ability. It can also be used to select inventory items, such as food, allowing you to quickly eat in the middle of combat. When Runescape 3 was released it was given 2 more options that, when activated, activate an area in your inventory that a player has designated.
