The Illuminated Book of War is a copy of Bandos' book of war embellished with gold trim. It may be created with a normal book of war at the book-making table in the Abbey of St. Elspeth Citharede east of Al Kharid after completion of One Piercing Note. 60 Crafting and 60 Prayer are required to create an illuminated copy of Bandos' book of war, and 10,000 Crafting and Prayer experience are awarded the first time a copy is successfully made. The process produces an additional item, rather than replacing an existing book.

To create an Illuminated Book of War, players must correctly follow the procedure that is used to copy books. Steps must be performed in order; otherwise, the copy is ruined, and players must begin again. The steps are:

Copy text
Embellish capitals
Add colour
Add gold leaf

Each step of the process consumes about 20-25 prayer points. There is a nearby altar in the Abbey that can be used to recharge Prayer if necessary.

The illuminated book of war has the same stats as the original book, apart from a +2 difference in Prayer bonus.
