A Hammer is a tool that players use primarily for Smithing, to make items from metal bars on an anvil. The hammer is also a very important part of the Construction skill because it, along with a saw, is needed to build everything in the house but garden plants. Hammers can be stored in the Toolbelt.
The hammer is also required in several quests to hammer in some nails (for example, in Dragon Slayer or In Aid of the Myreque). A hammer is also used in Animal Magnetism to make a magnet. You will also need a hammer to access the Bandos Stronghold in the God Wars Dungeon.
It may be bought or taken as well a free sample from a general store for 13 coins (free sample at Lumbridge General store), or may be found upstairs at the Falador forge as well as from the Grand Exchange for 51 coins. Players would be well-advised not to forget a hammer if they need it, as it may be time-consuming to return to a bank. A hammer can be found in a crate near Lumbridge's furnace.
A popular alternative is the Golden hammer, which provides the same uses as a normal hammer. It can also be wielded to provide an extra inventory space, which can be especially useful for training skills such as Smithing.
In a Player-owned house players can take infinite hammers for free if tools of any level is built in the house's workshop.
