Guthan the Infested is the third oldest of the six Barrow brothers.
He attacks with melee, and his set effect allows him to heal himself at a 1:1 ratio, so if he deals 20 damage and the effect occurs, he would recover 20 hitpoints. His effect is visible; three ghostly entities surround Guthan's opponents and circle around them in an upwards motion.
Nearly all players "tank mage" Guthan. This means that they will mage while wearing their melee armour, such as rune, granite, etc. Even though wearing metal while maging reduces your mage bonus significantly, Guthan's magic defence is so low that you will be hitting almost as high as with Mystic or other robes. This strategy is used so he won't be able to hit you often, thus, reducing the chances of healing himself.
Magic dart is noted as effective versus Barrows, for it hits accurately even with melee armour on, and you usually get most of the runes back from the chest. He is equipped with his own set of armour, Guthan's set, which is obtainable (albeit rarely) by players who complete the Barrows.
