Grenwalls are hunter creatures requiring a Hunter level of 77 to catch and provide the most experience out of any hunter creature. The only places where one can catch these creatures are in the forests of Isafdar, inside the Gorajo resource dungeon and in the Grenwall portal area (which requires a Grenwall quota ticket). They are caught using box traps, which must be baited with raw pawya meat. The bait will be consumed on a failed catch, however there is a chance that you may receive it back on a successful catch. Upon completion of the medium Tirannwn Tasks, meat is no longer required to bait Grenwalls.

When caught, they drop 18-21 grenwall spikes, which can be used to make extreme ranging potions, sold to the hunter stores in Yanille and Nardah, or as an alternative to arrow shafts. They may also drop an assortment of grimy herbs, from ranarr to dwarf weed (excluding spirit weed, wergali, and snapdragon).

Locations

Grenwalls can be found in three locations:

The best place to catch Grenwalls is in the Grenwall portal near Mieliki Tapio in the Tree Gnome Stronghold. It is close to a bank so it only takes 2-3 minutes to restock up on Raw pawya meat. However, to enter the portal the player is required to have a Grenwall quota ticket for every Grenwall caught. The tickets are earned through the Big Chinchompa Distraction and Diversion.

Only 300 Grenwall tickets can be earned per day spending 3000 Big Chinchompa reward points at either Nyriki Tapio or Mieliki Tapio's shop. The maximum amount of points earned per game is 1500 and two games can be completed per day.

For those who do not wish to play Big Chinchompa, Grenwalls can also be caught throughout Isafdar, however these hunting areas are far away from a bank and the Grenwall and Pawya occupy the same spots.

Strategy

All elf hunting creatures will either sleep or hide themselves when players are near them, so they should make sure to run a few steps away after the trap is laid.

Jagex also specified that due to the magical influence of Isafdar, Grenwalls are not fooled by the use of Hunter camouflage gear. As a result, it is better to wear weight-reducing clothing when hunting these.

It may also be advantageous to bring a bonecrusher for easy prayer experience and a herbicide for unwanted herbs.

Method 1

One method of hunting grenwalls is to catch them in combination with pawyas. Players should take a fruit bat familiar with at least 100 fruitfall scrolls to a hunter spot that contains both grenwalls and pawyas. Surround a grenwall spawn location with three traps, all baited with raw pawya meat, and use the remaining two, baited with papayas, to hunt pawyas. Continually cast fruitfall to replenish the supply of papayas and if necessary bait 3 traps, instead of two, with papayas if pawya meat supplies run low.

Bank at Lletya when you have a full inventory of herbs, or the nearby deposit box ( present only after Deadliest Catch). This method will enable you to obtain roughly 1,000 grenwall spikes per hour and approximately 100,000 to 150,000 coins worth of high level herbs. It is also possible to get papaya tree seeds as loot from Pawyas, though this is rare.

Note: Dropping herbs and 'camping' with multiple fruit bat pouches is not an effective training method. This will only gain you 10,000-15,000 hunter experience per hour more than banking them and about 200-300 more spikes per hour. For faster experience, it is recommended to take at least three hunter potions with each trip, and possibly scentless potions.

Method 2

A second method involves buying raw pawya meat and using a banking method to run trips between Lletya and grenwall locations. Using this method you can achieve a higher catch rate per hour, giving 700-1700 spikes and 100,000-105,000 experience. Using a banking method allows you to use a level boosting familiar such as an Arctic Bear or a beast of burden, such as a war tortoise or pack yak. A player would start at Lletya with 5 box traps, 1 crystal teleport seed, their grenwall spike stack, and possibly a replacement pouch, then fill the remaining inventory space with raw pawya meat.

Method 3

Access to a private hunting area is one of the possible rewards from participating in Big Chinchompa. This area is very close to a bank and allows for around 200,000 Hunter experience per hour. The D&D can only be participated in twice per day (a total of 40 minutes), allowing up to 300 Grenwalls to be caught per day. The best training method is to use an arctic bear, a bonecrusher/herbicide if wanted, and an enhanced yaktwee stick.

Method 4

With the completion of the Medium Tirannwn task set, the player unlocks the ability to catch Grenwalls without the need for bait. This makes training at the locations mentioned in Methods 1, 2, or 3 much more simple, and combined with the use of a bonecrusher and herbicide, eliminates the need for banking all-together. If the player wishes to save the herbs, it is recommended to bring Sign of the Porters and not use herbicide; keep in mind that this will also bank the raw pawya meat and grenwall spikes. With appropriate boosts, this method can yield some of the best xp rates per hour at Grenwalls.

Trivia

  • When they are found alongside Pawyas, they occasionally attack them by shooting spines at them, before running over to eat them, causing them to disappear.
