Graphics Riot

From the RuneScape Wiki, the wiki for all things RuneScape

The Graphics Riot in Varrock Square.

The Graphics Riot was a riot in Varrock Square that took place in World 1. This riot protested the July 2008 graphical update's constant lag, and some of the update's bugs.

Some of the glitches that were being rioted about were a direct cause of the update. One main one, the Baldness Glitch, would cause a player's hairstyle to turn bald when they took off certain headgear. Jagex responded by allowing players to receive free haircuts from the hairdresser. Another glitch was that full helmet plumes appeared red for male characters, which made many believe that they were Zamorak armour.

Though there is no official proof, it is guessed that the riot was started by Banana_Pure9 and Middle_man18, who were owners of Zamorak full helmets. Evidence of this is screen pictures and videos, with both players wearing Zamorak full helms protesting the glitches, saying things such as "We paid good money for these helms!", "Fix the glitch!", "Humans have hair for a reason!", and "RS HD = RS's Horrible Death!!", among many other things. They were quickly joined by others not happy with glitches and laggs.

Unlike many other riots, many of those that were rioting were supporting Jagex. A few of the rioters were not rioting about the lag and other bugs from the update, but were rioting about the previous Wilderness updates. These Runescape players wore either Blue or Black skirts.

At first, the riot was mainly composed of anti-Jagex players, where after some time, more supporters of the update and Jagex came into the riot. These players wore Pink skirts. After the rioteers noticed their defeat, they eventually quit, some even switched from pink to blue robes.
