The Granite Shield is a piece of members only armour, and was the first piece of granite armour to be released. It requires 50 Defence and 50 Strength to equip. It is commonly seen with new members which have little knowledge of the member's playgame, or players simply wanting its range defence bonus. It has comparable stats to the Obsidian shield, minus the +5 strength bonus. It is not a widely purchased due to the fact that a Rune kiteshield gives greater bonuses except for range and summoning.Some players simply purchase it if they have a granite body or other granite equpiment.
Though the shield has less defence bonus than a Rune Kiteshield, it has a greater requirement on defence. This makes more people with less knowledge think that the granite shield has better melee defence stats. The granite shield is the only granite piece of armour with weaker stats (except for granite platelegs) than its rune equivalent.
