Giant rats are low level vermin. These are often fought by low level players because of their low combat level, accessibility, and the fact that they drop bones and raw rat meat, which can be cooked over a fire and consumed to restore hitpoints. It should be noted that the level 6 rats may be aggressive to level 12 or lower levelled players.
Note: The level 6 giant rats in level 1-5 Wilderness are aggressive to ALL players, regardless of level.
While a player is in tutorial island, it is usually recommended to get up your attack, strength and defence by killing the giant rats there, as you will never get lower then 1 hp and don't require to eat. (Pures may use this to their advantage, as they can get up skills with no hp gained)
Previous to sometime around the Living rock Caverns update, there was no level 2 giant rats. Currently there are now several level two giant rats in the Varrock sewers.

- Bones
- Raw rat meat (unless you're on tutorial island, Stronghold of Security, or Melzar's Maze. Also, Level 6 Giant Rats in Lumbridge Swamp drop raw rat meat sometimes.
Other Drops:
- Giant rat bone (Only during Rag and Bone Man Quest)
