The Giant Mole (Talpidae wysonian) is found in the Falador Mole Lair, just under Falador Park. Upon release, on 7 March 2006, "a slight accident involving a bottle of Malignius-Mortifer's-Super-Ultra-Flora-Growth-Potion" is the origin of the creation of the Giant Mole.

Players will need a light source to access the location. Players are advised to be careful while fighting this monster as it may put out their light source. A seer's headband or bullseye lantern is strongly recommended, however a lantern with a tinderbox can also be used. To get into the lair you have to dig in any one of the 'mole hills' near Sir Tiffy Cashien in the Falador Park.

Players often kill the mole for its mole claws and mole skin, each of which Wyson the gardener will exchange for bird's nests, a valuable item that is often highly in demand by players training Herblore.

One giant mole can be present per world. When killed, it will respawn in about 2 minutes (or 200 game ticks). Players can use this respawn time to restore food and Prayer from the previous fight.

Giant mole strategiesEdit

Main article: Giant Mole/Strategies

The giant mole is weak against water based spells and is also vulnerable to poison. The mole, when poisoned, will surface to die and leave its drops so there is no risk of missing out on a drop. Sometimes when the mole digs it throws up balls of mud. The direction these go has nothing to do with the direction it will appear at when it surfaces.

One interesting thing to note is that despite its high combat level, the mole is unaggressive, so if you are a lower level and are unsure about fighting it, you can feel free to observe other players fighting it.

It will be easier to bring a familiar to fight it, because after the mole has dived away, your familiar will look in its direction, so it would speed up finding it.

Later on, when the mole is low on life points, it runs away a lot (see below). The mole always turns to where it goes then burrows (e.g. when a player is fighting it and it turns west and disappears, it most likely went west.)

DropsEdit

Note that the Giant Mole's drops are fairly similar to that of the King Black Dragon, although it does not drop the draconic visage, dragon bones, or black dragonhide. Also, the King Black Dragon drops 4 charms at a time as opposed to the Giant Mole's 2.

Rare drop table dropsEdit

This monster drops items from the rare drop table.
The ring of wealth improves the chances if equipped but is not required to access the table.

MechanicsEdit

When the Giant Mole makes an escape, its animation hides the appearance of the mole until its dig-from-ground animation is played. The mole dust cloud and escape animation are played. Four game ticks pass then the mole's location changes and plays its dig-from-ground animation.
