Gargoyle

From the RuneScape Wiki, the wiki for all things RuneScape

A player killing a Gargoyle.

Gargoyles are Slayer monsters that require level 75 slayer to damage. A rock hammer is needed to kill them once they reach less than 11 hitpoints remaining. Gargoyles are the only monster that drop Granite mauls.

Two Gargoyle statues are placed either side of the entrance to the Slayer Tower, their wings open and close with the doors.

[edit] Strategy

Players must use a rock hammer to break them apart when they reach less than 11 hitpoints. Gargoyles restore hitpoints at very fast rate: two hitpoints in approximately five seconds. Gargoyles are weaker to crush attacks, however the difference between using crush in the place of stab or slash is negligible and crush should only be used if it is available on the player's weapon of choice.

Another effective way to fight Gargoyles is to range or mage them in the Chaos Tunnels. There are numerous bushes and plants in the area, providing several safespots. Once the Gargoyle has been reduced to less than 10 hitpoints, the ranger or mage can run up to the Gargoyle with the rock hammer to finish it off.

[edit] Trivia

  • Gargoyles also guarded doorways of the Grim Reaper's house in the 2007 Hallowe'en event.
  • Gargoyles are featured in the FunOrb game "Armies of Gielinor" as followers of Zamorak.
  • Interestingly enough, weakened Gargoyles break with a swing from the rock hammer, but not with swings from much heavier crushing weapons such as the Barrelchest anchor or the Granite maul.
  • If the Gargoyle is poisoned and has barely any HP left, the Gargoyle may die without needing to use the Rock Hammer.
