Woodcutting in F2P revolves around two main concepts: cutting yews for money or cutting willows for experience. Woodcutting is not as tedious to train compared to some other skills, as locations for tree cutting are diverse and experience is amassed quickly. However, like all other skills, one must have a certain amount of patience to train this skill as F2P Woodcutting usually ranges around 30k-50k experience per hour at max.

[edit] Hatchets

Different hatchets are available to cut trees for F2P players, ranging from bronze to rune.

[edit] Level 1-15

Regular trees can be cut. There are many trees in the forest between Lumbridge and Draynor Village, and south of Falador. It is advised that players find a spot within a short distance from a bank so they can bank their logs and then sell or drop them. If you are looking to get another skill up as well, banked logs can be later be used to train Firemaking. A particularly good place for this is south of the Grand Exchange, as the area is abundant with trees and players can quickly bank or sell their logs at the Exchange. You need 97 regular logs, yielding a total of 2425 experience points, to reach level 15.

Oak trees can be cut. A good spot is east of Draynor Village's bank. Low level players should be careful here, as level 26 Jail Guards patrol the area. The area west of Varrock near the west bank is a good choice for lower levelled players. It is right next to a bank, so players can chop, bank, and then sell the logs. South-west of Varrock is ideal because it is right by the Grand Exchange. Another place includes north-west of Lumbridge. You must cut 332 oak logs, yielding 12450 experience points, to reach level 31.

Players would need to decide on cutting willow trees or oak trees, the former giving more experience but the latter worth more in coins and may be cut more quickly. It is recommended to cut oak trees and to avoid willows if the player has no access to adamantite hatchets or above. A quick way to chop willows is to cut down the ones just east of the Lumbridge general store and sell them to the store instead of banking. Another good location is the area northwest of the Crafting Guild, which contains a fairly large grove of willow trees that are rarely populated. If you cut oaks, you must cut 703 oak logs, yielding 26362.5 experience points to reach level 41.

[edit] Level 41-99

Willow trees can be cut. While it takes a long time until players can start cutting yew trees, it is recommended they stay with willows even after level 60 as the logs are cut at a quicker rate and with greater experience compared to other trees. A good spot to cut willows is beside Draynor Village, as there are five willow trees there and a bank for quick easy banking. (It is usually crowded at that spot, but picking an empty server should lessen the amount of people. An even better idea is to choose one of the PvP worlds, as the experience players can receive working here can outweigh the dangers of training here). If banking is not desired, there are other good willow tree spots to the north-east Port Sarim, to the south of Rimmington, or to the north of Lumbridge.

Another good way to train Woodcutting with willows is by selling them to a general store either in Lumbridge (use the trees by the River Lum and sell to the general store nearby) or Rimmington (cut the willows to the south-east of the town and sell to the general store). Note: After you sell the logs to the store, drop the money earned from it. It is usually not much more than 300 GP per inventory and is not a good way to make money. Or, you can just drop your logs, people will come pick it up, and sell it for easy money. (saves time and keeps the Grand Exchange Economy working)

To get to level 99 with willow logs, you must cut 192,493 willow logs, yielding 12,993,277.5 experience points.

One of the best places for training is on the coast of Rimmington by the altar behind the jail and grocery store located in Port Sarim which is loaded with willow trees with almost nobody ever there.

Another popular location is a few feet south of Draynor bank. In an experiment, it took 3 minutes and 23 seconds to travel from the Draynor bank, South to the willows, to a full inventory of logs, back to the Draynor bank. It took 3 minutes and 13 seconds to travel from the Draynor bank, NE to a lake area with willows, to a full inventory of logs, back to the draynor bank. The first choice, although further from the bank, is much more straightfoward (just clicking on trees) than the latter, but is so populated that you may find yourself struggling to get a 3:1 logs/tree clicked ratio.

[edit] Level 80-99

At level 80, players can cut yew trees at a decent rate. Keep in mind that the reason players should not start cutting yews at level 60 is because of the extremely slow rate at which the logs are obtained. Cutting yews at this level is one of the best means of obtaining wealth by skilling for free players. There are three yew trees behind Varrock Palace, one at the graveyard of Lumbridge and two by the entrance of Edgeville Dungeon, however these places can be quite crowded. There are four yew trees west of Rimmington, but they are a long distance from a bank. A good way to bank these is through the Cabbage port teleport system, provided by the Explorer's ring 3. There are also three yew trees south of the Falador east bank and four west of Draynor Village. You must now cut 63,134 yew logs from level 80 to reach level 99. (11,048,450 experience points)
