A Forum Moderator posting on the official RuneScape forums.

A moderator of the RuneScape Forums is a player selected by Jagex to enforce the forum rules. They have the power on the forums to lock & unlock threads, edit thread titles, hide/unhide threads & posts, move threads from one subforum to another, and finally they can temporarily ban repeatedly abusive users.

Forum moderators have a green background and green crown beside their name when they post. They have no powers in-game (unless they also happen to be a player moderator) and do not receive any further benefits.

Forum moderators can hide posts but not edit them. However, Jagex staff can edit posts.

A Jagex Moderator's explanation:

Q. What is a Forum Moderator?

A. A Forum Moderator is a player who has been hand-picked by Jagex staff to assist them on the Forums. They patrol the message boards, making sure that all is well.

  • Ensuring that all threads are in the correct Forum.
  • Advising players how to get the best out of the RuneScape Forums and Game.
  • Communicating regularly with Jagex Moderators and one another to ensure consistency.

Forum moderators can:

  • Lock and unlock threads (so regular users cannot post)
  • Hide and unhide threads (so regular users cannot see the contents of the thread)
  • Move threads to a different forum

  • Edit thread titles
  • Post on locked threads, and threads that have reached the maximum posts.
  • Issue temporary bans
