RuneScape:Hiscores

Yeah... I was wondering if we could use the parser for grabbing hiscore data to somehow implement in this template. I believe the template below speaks for itself. This is just an example but yeah...
The reason for this? Well... the runescape website is very cluttered and tends to load much slower than the wiki. I was wondering if we could have a more simplified version for the wiki. It would be much more convenient, I believe.

Oppose - The problem is that you probably have adblocker on which also prevents some HTTP requests on the RSWiki, that registered users have way less advertisements (= less load time) than anons, and that putting it on the RSWiki will make you need an extra HTTP request that's loaded after the page has loaded. This will add up to be just as laggy and slow for anons, as it is for anyone on the runescape site. I'm sure that if you're an anon on the rswiki who doesn't have adblocker, you'll get so much loadtime from the 10 adverts plus meeboo bar, it's just as slow or even slower than runescape. Add a 1-2 second request to the load time, and you've got yourself something even slower. So, no. This will not increase speeds compared to the official hiscores. You're free to try making a script, putting it in your own Special:MyPage/skin.js, and making a subpage of your userpage where you load the script, but I don't think it's helpful to have a script like that on the wiki. - Regarding AdBlocker, I don't use it, nor does EVERYONE. Meebo bar? Uhh, I've never seen a meebo bar on the wiki :O

Oppose - Feel free to make a subpage with your own script, but a project page? No thanks. Hair 12:47, September 11, 2012 (UTC)
Oppose - We are here to provide information on RuneScape, not replace their services

Oppose - Given that we dont have player articles, theres no reason for this to be instituted as a template. That being said, go ahead and make your own script. You might want to use the lite highscores, hiscore.runescape.com/index_lite.ws?player=<playername> Cursed Pyres (talk) 22:44, September 11, 2012 (UTC)
Oppose - It's a nice and fast script, agreed, and feel free to use it, but not as a project page. There is also RS:PDDA, plus the official highscores work fine and I don't know how Jagex would feel about us replacing their services.

Weak oppose - Per technical aspects as outlined by Joey. 222 talk 06:43, September 13, 2012 (UTC)
Comment - Bren, I got something that you probably want to work, if you want to use this instead.

Request for Closure - Bren got [[User:BrenRS/Compare]] set up, which is basically what he is proposing to be added but he has done in his user namespace. Plus, from the above, such an addition isn't wanted in the project namespace (and suggested to be moved to his userpage, which happened which can be seen by that link) so I think everything is taken care of. Closed - Bren has done what he has wanted in his userspace since the community did not support it to be in the project space. ![]()
