99.999% of the time, a monster's access to a drop is unique. Meaning, it is explicitly on the drop table. There are some items, however, that are universally dropped, regardless of circumstance. The biggest one that comes to mind is the spin ticket. Apparently anagogic orts as well (I have no clue as I'm not in a clan).

Along with those, there are items that are only limited time (like the spirit wolf blood). I do believe that the current consensus is that there is no point in having them listed in drops tables because they are limited time items and are dropped by everything.

So the question is: How do we feel about listing an item on individual drops tables if the item is dropped by everything?

I have no strong stance either way, but I do feel this is a question that needs to be asked and answered, even if we have seemed to agree to do it one way for so long. MolMan 17:14, December 5, 2013 (UTC)

Discussion

Comment - There are varying degrees of "everything"... A spin ticket is a good example: it can be dropped by anything, even monsters that would otherwise only drop bones. Effigies are another case: if I understand the mechanic correctly, anything can drop them, but the chance is so small for any of the low level NPCs that it's practically infeasible. Anagogic orts are dropped with EVERY drop that accesses the RDT (and the RDT as defined on the Jagex wiki, which is more than a single table. Most herb and seed drops come from that table, though not all), so long as you haven't turned them off && are in a clan && haven't reached your daily limit. I'm not sure in which category the spirit gems belong, are they really dropped by everything like spin tickets, or only monsters that drop charms (which is another group of items that are dropped by /almost/ all monsters)? Perhaps build a full list of items that this forum would affect (excluding all sof promo special, temporary items)? IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 18:19, December 5, 2013 (UTC)

As far as I know, just the spin ticket (however, we have no idea of what could be added in the future). Effigies are only dropped by certain NPCs, and I don't think there's any particular rhyme or reason as to why some monsters do and some monsters don't. The spirit gems are only dropped by monsters who drop single charms. I even made a cut lil template. MolMan 18:25, December 5, 2013 (UTC)
If this only references the very special case of spin ticket-like everything, I'm all for not including it in every single drop list. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 18:30, December 5, 2013 (UTC)

Suggestion - Make a separate drop table (like the RDT template) and add stuff like spin tickets to it. Adding and removing temporary stuff like the wolf blood is a piece of cake this way. Then have a bot add the template to each non-Dungeoneering (probably othere exceptions) monster. 18px-Avatar.png Fswe1 26px-Brassica_Prime_symbol.svg.png 18:32, December 5, 2013 (UTC)

That's overly convoluted... MolMan 18:33, December 5, 2013 (UTC)

It's just 1 or 2 drops. Just add them to every page. Ancient talisman Oil4 Talk 22:59, December 5, 2013 (UTC)

What if wolf blood? Updating a template is undeniably easier than having to do every single relevant article. 18px-Avatar.png Fswe1 26px-Brassica_Prime_symbol.svg.png 08:14, December 6, 2013 (UTC)
It is also undeniably more effort to set up and get to work properly. Just use one of the bots or AWB accounts to update it. It's not like those promoes come out every other day. Ancient talisman Oil4 Talk 08:26, December 6, 2013 (UTC)
Lol, no, it's making one tiny template, the code for which can just be copied from the RDT template. It should take no more than two minutes then a bot/AWB can add it to monster pages. 18px-Avatar.png Fswe1 26px-Brassica_Prime_symbol.svg.png 17:51, December 6, 2013 (UTC)
Like I said, Just use one of the bots or AWB accounts to update it. Ancient talisman Oil4 Talk 19:15, December 6, 2013 (UTC)
I don't see why it would be harder to put the template on pages once and update that template than it would be to run a bot everytime something like that happens to add/remove the items. User:TyA/sig 19:37, December 11, 2013 (UTC)
I just don't see the added value of another template instead of just running a bot every 6 months. Ancient talisman Oil4 Talk 21:35, December 11, 2013 (UTC)
For one, it would prevent an unnecessary inflation of a bot's edit count. While it's not wrong in any sense for a bot to do a million edits of the same nature, why bother when it can be avoided? Also, the bot would have to make the changes one at a time. A template would make every page updated with a single edit. If we want to include eery universal drop including limited edition items, a template is many orders of magnitude better than 5000 edits just to be up to date. May I reiterate that those 5000 edits could be done with 1 edit if we use a template? MolMan 00:50, December 12, 2013 (UTC)

To answer your question: Then very much, yes. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 14:59, December 8, 2013 (UTC)

Support and Question: Would other drop tables need to be affected accordingly? Many of the Dungeoneering drop tables are ridiculous. Anything can drop food. I've seen every creature drop a low end dagger. and so on. GWD followers, almost anyone can drop the Warpriest Armor Pieces, and soon we are going to Arma and Bandos to those respective lists. Note: SoF promotional items tend to be the biggest offender on new drop items that anything can drop. Valentine Hearts, the Spirit Wolf Blood, Stardust, etc. Monsters and skilling would provide 1 or a few, the Wheel would provide batches of 10s, 50s, even 100s. --Deltaslug (talk) 21:43, December 11, 2013 (UTC)

No. Dungeoneering drops are all done with a single template in a way similar to fartwall's idea (which I am starting to like for some reason); they're fine as is. Warpriest a big no as well. That's a small handful of monsters really. The scope of this question only extends to literally everything. So far, that's only spin tickets, SoF promos, the occasional holiday thing (which now go hand in hand with SoF lol), and divine tears. MolMan 00:33, December 12, 2013 (UTC)
