Following the mixed reviews on Forum:New theme, this thread has been opened to focus on proposals for a new theme. Anyone can make a theme, all you need is a test wiki and Special:ThemeDesigner. If you don't have a test wiki, you can create one using the "Create a Wiki" button in the top left of the page and name it after your username. As the current logo is tied into the brown theme, you might want to use another logo in your submission.

Given that we are all busy people, I'll set the deadline for theme submissions at 24th August 2014. That's 3 weeks to make a new theme and logo at which point we can start voting/discussing which we like the most. To make life simpler, all you need to focus on is non-content, e.g. background images, page colour, etc. After we've selected a theme, we can then add fixes with css making sure all our content matches the theme.

To submit a theme, either screenshot it and upload it to an image hosting site such as imgur, or link to it directly below. User:Cqm/Signature

• w:c:iiiiiii - Blue and white theme with a new logo, by User:Iiii I I I
• w:c:urbancowgurl777 - Green and grey.black theme with a green variant of the current logo, by User:Urbancowgurl777
• es: - Variant on the current brown theme, with an updated logo similar to the one currently used for the RuneScape game, by User:Ajente02
• w:c:jrmime - A green on green with Elf City artworks, by User:Urbancowgurl777
• w:c:camtest - Based on Iiii I I I's theme, but with a slightly darker colour scheme and a different background. Currently using the same logo, but will be changing to use Monserrat asap (see a mockup here). Logo updated, minor tweaks may follow.

It's essentially a side effect of having a page width that increases or decreases depending on screen width. There's not many other ways to implement background images so we're more or less stuck with it unless we can get a really wide image. User:Cqm/Signature

Oppose - If we allow people to nitpick what they want the theme to be, we're going to get nowhere. Can we just say pick Either Fetus's theme or Fergie's theme? It's obvious there's a consensus to change the theme, but we're all too wavery in our tastes to decide what a theme should be. This, that, or nothing as the only options is the only way anything will get done. Btw, fetus's theme, and once again, for the love of god, don't have submissions. MolMan 04:20, August 3, 2014 (UTC)

Because, as I said, nothing would get done. We would spend too much time trying to make everyone happy that there would end up being no theme chosen. This is aesthetics so it is impossible to make everyone happy, and we just have to accept that fact. MolMan 21:10, August 3, 2014 (UTC)

7i's theme with changes - Mainly this over Elf City because blue links > green links. That said, I don't like the background of either theme; we're just using Jagex' wallpapers/artwork which is insufferably lame (yes, we've always done that, I know). I'd suggest making our own background using in-game screenshots. Just pick a few locations that fit the colour scheme and glue a few vertical bands of each image next to each other so that it doesn't look hideous and make them bland into one another. And sure, we could include an image of Priffy once it's released. Also, I still think the logo is too simple... Maybe put runes on top of the i's in "wiki" instead of the dots? Assuming the cheapest license was bought which allows up to 10k views a month, is anyone really in a position to dispute how many pageviews we get? Google analytics is only accessible to a handful of us and Quantcast is controlled by Wikia and was closed to the public years ago. The only other pageview stats are on Special:AdminDashboard which requires admin rights or above to access. Unless staff take an unusually high interest in us, no one's going to be any the wiser. The point of having submissions was to emulate the last proper theme thread back in 2010. Unfortunately, everyone seems to have ignored the submissions period and started picking their favourite already meaning anyone who want to make a theme is going to throw it together in the next couple of days and not have a chance to polish it. Comments - I much prefer Iiii's theme, but without the ability to use his logo (we need someone versed in the legals to confirm or deny that), I'm less sure. The Elf theme has some things going for it, but on the whole I like it less. The lack of fading on the background definitely looks awful, which needs to be fixed, and the logo is just... bleh. The weird branch things appear to be original (and not Jagex artwork like our current one, though that isn't a bad thing) and it shows, looking more than a little tacky. The green gradient doesn't work for me either. Create a high resolution version and see what it looks like, because our current one is great. In general I don't think the theme works together as well as our current theme or Iiii's.  @Gaz#7521 21:13, August 3, 2014 (UTC)

Support iiiiiiiii's & Cam's theme Am i the only one that thinks the elf city theme looks shite? I mean, yea, it's better than the stool sample of a theme we have now, but I still think the elf city theme doesnt represent the current theme of RS. If nothing else, can we keep III's guide buttons? Umm, yes? Not sure if this is a question or a statement. Is there a problem with it, considering every single background we've ever used has been from runescape with minimal editing at best? User:Cqm/Signature

Using a Jagex wallpaper is already cheesy; using the default RS3 one is just lame. What's wrong with in-game images from the wiki? Other than the background I like your theme btw. Fswe1 12:46, August 9, 2014 (UTC)

• Ingame images are often a little small to be used for backgrounds. Fergie went with a stitching together of concept art that I didn't really come together as well as I'd hoped it would, and seeing as she has far more 1337 5K1LL5 than me in image editing I went with what I had available and was ready to use.
• Ideally I'd get someone more proficient with image taking to get something from Prifddinas, or at the very least Plague's End, because it's current. Having said that something elf-y is going to be outdated in a few months and if it just so happens that it's updated at some point we're then stuck with a background that needs retaking which is going to be a nightmare to deal with. In game images are fine for holiday themes, but not something as long running as the normal wiki theme.
• It's clearly done by a professional. If someone can come up with something more original that fits the theme I'd happily use it, but I don't know anyone who's a) willing, and b) going to do it for free and very quickly
• As for the theme itself, fetus has a point. Brown (or at least dark palettes) are used on every RS site I can think of great and small. Why shouldn't we try to stand out? The default oasis theme isn't something the vast majority of our readers are going to be remotely familiar with unless "wikia" is suddenly as much of a thing as their marketing hope. I realise this wasn't a point in Fswe's reply, but I thought I'd address it for the sake of clarity. User:Cqm/Signature

To be fair, HTML5 images of bright places like Asgarnia would do well for permanent backgrounds. But after a quick skim, stuff like File:Abbey of Elsperth.jpg, File:Empryean Citadel concept art.jpg, File:Abbinah concept art.png or File:Betrayal at Falador Artwork.png for example could do as backgrounds for light themes. File:Abbinah concept art.png would look better than the Empryean Citadel if it didn't have the watermark and was larger. Could someone please find the stream that it was in and retake it? Temujin 10:25, August 18, 2014 (UTC)

The problem with concept art images is that you can't fade their backgrounds like the current background is faded. The current background is overall brown, so it's easy to fade it into a paintbucket brown. Concept art images are all different colors so you can't really pick a nice color to fade them into. Also, both of those images are pretty small, and the Abbinah one is really pixelated at full resolution. In any case, do remember that the only part people will see will be the edges since the middle will be where the wiki is. :3= The image needs to be big enough that most normal resolutions will see it and it needs to be colored well enough so that it can fade into a solid background for bigger resolutions. We can edit it to make the edges the best part of it and the colours more consistent. As the full resolution is 3,604 × 1,987 px, we could use this 1,280 × 706 px version instead if need be. Also, with the partial transparency that exists in Cam's theme, people would still see the middle of the image. Temujin 07:19, August 19, 2014 (UTC)

Bird and the Beast? Can we not use such old things ._.' Jagex gave all fansites artwork for Bird and the Beast while the event was actually running so that fansites could pick which side to support & promote.      I don't know what would work best, but after a quick search, some Brimhaven Dungeon concept art would be nice, or if you want to have easy black fading at the bottom, good ol EoC promo art. And then, as Fswe mentioned about HTML5 goodness, we have this.  I'm not suggesting we use any of those links specifically, because I'm sure there's some copyright stuff involved, but hopefully we can find those images in a place where we can use em. Comment - The mainpage proposal is kind of held up by what gets decided here due to the logo font on 3i+1's theme being used on the mainpage 'portals' which are currently in the process of being moved here. User:Cqm/Signature

Another font we could use for the logo (and thus the mainpage tiles and probably the favicon) is Cinzel Decorative. It's a google font, so we never have to worry about licensing and it's readily available for anyone to utilise if we ever need to change something. I haven't got as far as making a logo mockup yet, but if you want to have a go with it, you can use the link I provided.

Ultimately, I'd like to create a logo and favicon that work with any theme change we might have in the future, the brown logo and favicon used at them moment is resistant to that. The favicon also looks bad when seen in a dark browser theme, which I've known about since the last favicon change but haven't got around to fixing it, so this is the ideal time to fix that. Closure

No consensus - There is an almost split amount that want the Elven theme or the blue theme. As such, there is no consensus on the change. The factors contributing to the indecisiveness were the lack of themes at the very beginning prior to being support for one theme over another and the teardowns of themes to make them function as wanted. In the future, please use less text when bolding prior to the reasoning or signature. A simple '''Support [username]''' will do fine. A new thread may be made on changing the existing theme with all proposals included. However, please wait a week before doing such and use the notification system so that it garners attention it is due when changing the theme.

A main page poll could help decide what theme to use outside of the Yew Grove. Let us call it the Power to the Readers with the ability to influence the wiki outside these policy changes here in the Yew Grove where fewer people decide the fate of the entirety of the wiki.
