Hello. For most types of files, the wiki has pretty solid naming patterns, but this turns into a mess when we look at old versions of images. On the Graphical updates logs we can find versions of items named as "Old" and "Older", "Old1" and "Old2", "old1" and "old2", and so on. Could a consensus be reached to define a standard?

Also, some of the pages are really messy and seem abandoned, with loads of missing files and changes not being mentioned. I ran across a problem where i wanted to add an intermediate version, but for doing so i'd either have to move the whole article, line by line, across the {{Graphical updates line/small}} template, or add in a new one and have 2 empty spaces on the middle of the list. IMO it should be easier to reorganize entries in the list, so that ordering it alphabetically doesn't turns into a nightmare.

Finally, here's a tip: Some (many) old files are missing, and the abandoned international wikis are gold mines for them, since many were never updated.

Also, i have no idea what is the norm for multiple versions. Some pages use many lines, one with each change, while other use a single line with 2 "arrows" pointing, resulting in 3 versions of a file, which seems like a more clean approach to me.

I think this was Fswe1's pet project at one point, but I have no clue if it's still being updated. As for the standard, what about a historic X suffix, where X is a number > 1. Every time another historic image is uploaded, simply add 1. cqm 23:43, 9 Jan 2017 (UTC)
I see it occassionally being updated, but also a lot of poking from Fswe1 towards Battleben for images. Other than that I don't see much regarding this. Farming master cape Salix of Prifddinas Completionist cape 23:56, January 9, 2017 (UTC)

Comment - As the unofficial curator, I should respond. So basically Hofmic designed an overhaul of the GU pages to make them easier to edit via template entries, and reduce the lag by making the images smaller and splitting into subpages. Naturally I quickly joined in helping him, since I'd added almost all of the hundreds of entries to the pages. Then Hofmic left the wiki, and I continued mostly alone on updating the pages, with some much-appreciated sporadic help from some editors. Unfortunately, there are a *lot* of entries that needed reworking (I think at the time we managed to do all chatheads and almost all NPCs, with a start on monsters and items and locations left for later - I had personally never touched animations) and my life got busier all the time meaning I eventually stopped.

I continued adding new entries in whatever style the respective page used at the time, Hofmic'd or old, whenever updates were released. Eventually I stopped doing that too and resorted to adding them in batches every few weeks. The unsurprising twist: eventually I stopped doing that too, mostly due to lack of assistance, the large amount of graphical updates coming in and the looming burden of eventually having to rework al pages anyway. And, as Crowborn remarks, adding new entries to the middle of tables is exceptionally annoying since you eitehr create an empty cell or have to move every line manually, which is an awful job. I cannot say for sure when I last worked on GU, I think it was medio 2015.

Anyway, this all said, what the pages really need is:

  • The reworking to new style must be finished. I am of course willing to help with that (over summer holidays) but I cannot manage all of it alone.
  • They obviously need updating for the past let's say two years' worth of updates.
  • Naming conventions for historical files would be nice; I'd advocate 'old' or 'old1' for the oldest version, 'old2' for the next etc. However, actually moving all files that do not stick to this and correcting all the red links would be the lowest of my priorities...
  • Come up with an easy mechanism to nicely add new entries (...and implement it across the board...) or accept that some tables will have random empty cells.
  • An urgent request towards image uploaders to add their own images' entries to the correct GU tables when they update an image; this cannot be enforce but it would help me immensely, and it shouldn't take a lot of time, esp. if we make the entries easier to add and Special:MultipleUpload is used. We can only reasonably ask this of people once GU is fully up-to-date and functional, though.

Also, since it was mentioned, I believe the current status quo is to have three images per cell (if applicable) only for chatheads. But that looked bad in Oasis in some cases, so probably just forgo it altogether.

To sum up, yes some pages are messy due to not having been updated to the new format yet and yes all of them are obsolete. Mostly because I could not and cannot do everything by myself. So if people are willing to help out, then I can get on board. Otherwise you'll have to rely on my own willingness to catch up on a few years' doing nothing and that might take a while. 18px-Avatar.png Fswe1 26px-Brassica_Prime_symbol.svg.png 18:22, January 10, 2017 (UTC)

I can help, but i don't have too much time to spare, as i also need to edit on the pt-br Wiki and go to work. I agree that "old1", "old2" and so on for the imagem names, with the smaller number being the oldest review. Also, i don't think we should bother with some empty cells between different letters, as allowing them would save us an absurd amount of work and time. --Raven (blue) Crowborn (Talk) 17:18, January 14, 2017 (UTC)

Comment - There are countless files requiring a rename, which i don't have permission to do. Can something be done about that? And if the community feels like i am not ready for that permission, could someone that owns it join the effort? Raven (blue) Crowborn (Talk) 19:59, January 24, 2017 (UTC)
I'd say don't bother. If and when we finish the important stuff, we can go through that fun. 18px-Avatar.png Fswe1 26px-Brassica_Prime_symbol.svg.png 18:59, January 25, 2017 (UTC)
Late, but you can request the permission at RuneScape:Requests for permissions. However, it doesn't look like you meet the requirements yet. You can put {{M|whatever the name should be}} on any file's page to request someone else renames it. As Fswe says this might not be something to prioritise right now, but should you need any images renamed that would be how to do it.
