So, I log onto RS and try to join the RS CC thinking the silly kick I was given the day before was over but apparently I got permanently banned without a good reason? I got kicked from the channel yesterday because a user made a comment about removing another user from their facebook because it looked odd that they had a girl from the states on FB that was so young so I made a joke that it was a ripe age for rape. None of the two whom the joke concerned showed any signs of being offended but I got kicked nonetheless, now, I'm a big boy so I'm not going to cry about it, I just kept on playing. Today I log on thinking the ban had expired as it should but I am no longer allowed in the CC. Now, I may be wrong since I am not all-knowing in policies and whatnot but unless there was a discussion about permanently banning me then I shouldn't have been banned. I don't know who exactly kicked and banned me so I'm not going to accuse anyone but what is the normal protocol for this?

TLDR: I was kicked for making a simple joke, I got over it but then I logged on the next day to find out I was permanently banned, is that how it works normally is what I ask. Composite 4

Moved - To the Clan Chat Forum. I'll comment more thoroughly on this in a second. ʞooɔ 21:58, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Looking at the blocked names, it seems you're blocked for 2 weeks, not permanently, unless you already said that, in which case ignore me. User:BerserkHackr/Signature 22:00, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

Then I'd like to turn this discussion over to whether my ban was fair or not. My joke did not warrant a 2 week ban and seeing who in fact requested the ban I think it's most because of his personal damage with me than for any proper reason. Composite 4

I'm not sure if 2 weeks is needed but you shouldn't joke about things that may offend others. Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 22:08, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

The people concerned in the joke did not find offence nor did anyone in the channel. I've seen you around the CC a few times so I think you realize that the CC isn't full of easily offended people. We pretty much joke about "offensive" topics a lot during the day but I am apparently the only one who deserved a ban? Composite 4

And I never join in such topics. Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 22:18, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

See User talk:C Teng. User:Degenret01 requested a two week block for you, and he says he has a screenshot if needed. I think what you said was very offensive, but I don't know if a two week block was necessary. Was this your first block from the chat? ʞooɔ 22:12, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

Cook, were you in the channel at the time? Composite 4

No, I wasn't. But based on what you've said here, I would have taken offense at what you said. ʞooɔ 22:19, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

Stuff said in the CC is for people in the CC, so taking into account that fact that the great majority (excluding Degen I guess) weren't offended then I can safely say that my comment did not cause rivers of tears amongst the CC users. Composite 4

Err... You mean "weren't"? Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 22:25, August 2, 2010 (UTC)
Whoops ^.^ Corrected. Composite 4

Comment How anybody could possibly think a joke about raping a 14 year old is not very offensive sickens me. Rape is one of the most vile and violent offenses committed against other persons and it should never be a matter of joking in a CC that is to maintain a friendly, positive, and helpful environment for all at all times. If this were my personal CC you would be banned forever. You disgust and sicken me, and anyone who thinks this "joke" is "not to bad" also has a disgusting mentality. I have and am still strongly considering a thread to get your ban extended to three or six months.--Degenret01 22:30, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

Degen, the sooner we can get over this idealistic idea of the CC being an oasis of lovely innocent children looking to play a friendly game of Runescape with fun-loving people from around the world the sooner we can speak seriously. Jokes worse than that are made every single day by people that you are friendly with. I'm sure your bias towards me had more to do than your supposed "disgust" for my heretic actions. Composite 4
That shows you to be 100% ignorant of me, my beliefs, my actions, and my behavior. It is also a violation of RS:AGF.--Degenret01 22:39, August 2, 2010 (UTC)
CONFLICT: I have no idea what reaction you expect to get out of me by showing me policies. I came to a logical conclusion by observing how you deal with jokes such as the one I made with other people. Composite 4
EDIT CONFLICT: @Degen: Raleighriper got a one month ban (later changed to 6 months) for many many many racist comments, so for one joke is a bit overboard. @Composite 4: That is what the CC should be and I pretty sure Degen is serious. Also, I suggest you apologize rather than defending that you were in the right. Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 22:42, August 2, 2010 (UTC)
I'll ingnore your suggestion because me being a bit more realistic about the severity of my jokes as opposed to Degen is nothing to apologize for. Composite 4
Just posting to say that I've been in the CC almost all day, every day for the past few days. Even before my mini-vacation, I was in the CC immediately after work. Throughout all this time, I very, VERY rarely see an offensive joke, and I have never seen one even approaching a topic as sensitive as rape (especially rape of a 14 year old girl). It violates several rules, and is offensive. Clean cog The Wretched Automaton TalkClean cog 22:47, August 2, 2010 (UTC)
Maybe it is just me and my crazy satanic humor but if a joke is meant as nothing more than a joke than it is time for some of you to grow up and realize the world is not as innocent as you'd like it to be. Composite 4

Question for Composite - What are you trying to accomplish with this thread? You've already found out the duration of the block. If you're trying to get the block lowered, you're not going to get that done by arguing over it. This is quickly turning into a shitfest, so unless you have a proposal for this thread, I will close it. ʞooɔ 22:52, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

Fine, I can deal with the block, honestly it isn't a big deal and I just wanted to find out the specifics but I want to ask what is the practical reason for such heavy restrictions on what can and cannot be said in the CC. I am fine with a ban for what I said even though I don't find what I said wrong but I notice the laughable innocence of the rule makers with getting the ranks to uphold things like "no swearing" in the CC with silly pretexts such as "we have younger children in here" when we are all aware that younger children say the things they are trying to censor. Composite 4

Your reasoning isn't working for me. I'm certainly not a "young child", and I found that to be really offensive. If you don't like our rules, feel free to not come back. ʞooɔ 22:59, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

How about you deal with my question instead of telling me to go away like a child? Composite 4

When you stop acting like a child, is when you are treated like an adult. Furthermore, using the 'you should all grow up' argument is tired and lame. Grown ups who work in the criminal law fields don't find jokes like that funny - if anything, your statement defines you as someone who has no idea how to act socially (both online and offline). Clean cog The Wretched Automaton TalkClean cog 23:06, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

Please don't tell me to grow up simply for the sake of retorting, that is becoming a little tired and lame. I said that I don't mind being banned for what I said but I question the reasons for other rules. Now, if you're going to be a white-knight you might as well read my question and answer it. Composite 4

I'm not seeing a question. Also the rule makers were EVERYONE at the time the CC was set up. Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 23:16, August 2, 2010 (UTC)
My question is what is the reason for the rule against cursing, just simple cursing. Nothing having to do with "rude jokes" and the like I am asking what is the point of upholding a rule against cursing when it is very well known even the younger audience knows and uses them. Composite 4

Oh Jesus almighty. Sorry, I apologize for trying to have a conversation when I should've realized that it would've been a more productive use of my time to ask someone to show me a list of policies on the site that I'm already aware exist. I will never make the mistake of thinking you can answer a question with a logical response. Composite 4

Closed This is turning into a flamewar, so I'm closing this now. MFBSYBucket detailrwojy 23:26, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, I know this topic is closed but where is the flaming here? We're having a discussion. Not one insult was thrown save for the child comment which is over at this point. Composite 4
"I will never make the mistake of thinking you can answer a question with a logical response." How about that one? Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 23:37, August 2, 2010 (UTC)
Wasn't I correct? I ask to discuss the usefulness of a rule and you present to me the RS rules which I'm already read up on. I know why the rule is there what I asked was the practicality of it. Composite 4
This is closed. Leave it alone or I'll fully protect it. ʞooɔ 23:41, August 2, 2010 (UTC)
