This morning after having a discussion with Degenret01 in the clan chat, it had come to my attention that not everyone knew who were representing the wiki in the Fansite Staff specialist forum as seen here: What the discussion came down to was how those representing the wiki were decided and why there was no thread regarding the selection of the representatives of the wiki.
Those that I am aware of that have access to the Fansite Staff forum are Cook Me Plox, Urbancowgurl777, and myself. We gained access to the Fansite Staff forums between December 9 to December 12, 2011. At that time, the rules had been relaxed on the sites that had access to the Fansite Staff forum from Gold to Bronze tiered sites, allowing the RuneScape Wiki (Silver rated) into the fold.
I had been asked by Cook at the time whether or not I was interested in the forum, and my reply was that I was interested in them or similar. A few days went by and the Fansite Staff forum appeared on my forums page. At the time, I didn't remotely think about making a thread on the subject as it was more of touch and go.
I'm not entirely sure what I want to accomplish with this thread as what is done is done. As for adding additional sysops to the Fansite Staff forum, Jagex doesn't want too many from any one site to have access due to some unfriendly postings of sensitive material about those that use it who have defaced fansites, stolen databases and previously hijacked a sysop's account here too in the past two years.
In the end, I guess it'll be up to those users that want access to put their names here and for Mod Stevew to determine if you get the access. Still, no guarantees that any more people will be allowed. Or, the community can say that they don't want to have any of the current three sysops that have access to the forums to continue representing the wiki in the monthly Fansite Staff Conference Calls.
In any case, I've represented the wiki during the previous three Conference Calls and if a sysop wishes to have the audio transcript of any of the three, they can request them. I guess this is more of an informative thread than a pure discussion thread, but I'm posting this as it is thought to be good to know who the wiki is being represented by in the Conference Calls and in the Fansite Staff forum. Sorry for leaving this topic in the dark for many individuals for nearly nine months, Ryan PM 07:45, August 28, 2012 (UTC)
Comment - Personally I'm generally unaware of the conversations between Jagex and the various users with access to said forum except for when Cook brought it up in conversation, regarding the "hoops" we jumped through to gain silver fansite status. I'd hope that if anything that could be deemed as impacting on us would be brought to our notice and I'm fine with trusting the judgement of those with access to do that if necessary.
In the interests of transparency, perhaps there is merit to keeping a record of when these conversations occur so we can request access to transcripts as we feel necessary. Maybe the creation of RuneScape:Fansite Support which would document the occurrence of the conversations along with a short summary of what was discussed along with who was present. From there we can gain greater detail on a request basis. As for the contents of the forum, I would imagine it goes against some Jagex policy to upload pictures of the goings on of the forum for public viewing, so I'd have to go back to trusting the judgement of those with access. cqm 09:58,28/8/2012 (UTC)
