So in the past months I've noticed an influx of new editors on the RS Wiki Discord Channel, while we do have guides that cover bases , I think we leak of an easy way of telling who do X. Us, "long term wikians" pretty much know who do what, but for newbies that need help in a specific domain, the only way to figure out who should be able to help them is either looking at recent change or maybe look at the ongoing Discord conversation for clues. So my suggestion is that on Discord we would have "tags" or "groups" who would be actually everyone-tier roles with the name being white, unless if the person already have a role and thus would keep its color. These roles would only serve the purpose of pinpointing who do X speciality and newbies would be able to ping them, of course, they don't deserve dedicaced channel as most talk if needed is already been done in #wiki.

Here's some idea for these groups (names are terrible tho):

Note: Those are based on Discord conversation, and I may be wrong.

Name Description Suitable wikians examples
Graphist Manage files, do gifs, images transparency and transluency etc... IsobelJ, Scuzzy Beta
Audio managers Have a vast knowledge of rs audio history and know how to deal with this. RS Orchestra, maybe me
The watchers Constantly keep an eye on Jagex social media and official forums. Tonybest100
Template engineers Have a really extensive knowledge about template and dpl way over the common crowd. Gaz Lloyd, Cook me plox

For polyvalentful being such as me there would be no need to be in a specific group (except maybe in audio managers because this is lacking users) plus my actual speciality already have a dedicaced server for obvious reasons, but I think such a thing should guide new editors if the execution is done correctly (i.e Gaz pining a message with the pingable group in #welcome). Of course we would only chose who are actually advanced in these specialities, but I think this should be left to Gareth's judgement.

May Hellios be with you, editors. http://i.imgur.com/x5sQGus.png  ᚼ 𝕷𝖔𝖗𝖉 𝕸𝖆𝖓𝖕𝖆𝖎𝖓𝖙 ᚼ (t)(c) 14:47, August 12, 2017 (UTC) ᚲᛜᛖᛖᛜᚺ ᛒᚴᚾ ᚻᛜᚳᛘ, ᛋᛁᛈᚺᚣᚾᚴᚱᛊ ᛜᚨ ᚻᛁᛖ, ᛁᚾ ᛁᛋ ᛖᛘ ᛋᛊᚲᛜᚺᚦ.

Discussion

Comment - Is this really necessary? There are already plenty of ways to contact competent editors if you know who they are, and there's presumably plenty of people watching the general discord channel who will catch any questions not addressed to a particular person. I don't really see the need in encouraging a lot of pinging to these people. Ancient talisman Oil4 Talk 14:57, August 12, 2017 (UTC)

Oppose - This is not necessary. There are plenty of people who can help in a variety of fields, we do not have to single out specific individuals that can do this and give them the burden of being pinged constantly. Also, please don't forget that as good an editor as Gareth is, he isn't the only person who edits here. So if this does pass, I don't think the groups "should be left to Gareth's judgement" at all. https://i.imgur.com/xHR7zpA.pnghttps://i.imgur.com/6encXAo.png 15:08, August 12, 2017 (UTC)

Yeah, why should Gaz have all the fun? User:Cqm/Signature

Support - Here in PT-BR wiki he wave one person that can code and help other with this, another who does images and some guys to do some kind of content. Is very useful when guiding newbies that want to learn and making groups would help them to look for a teacher. Oppose - I don't think Discord needs to be this "structured". The person asking the question would have to 1) know what the groups' purposes are 2) decide which group their problem falls into. And we've already got users listed as contacts on RuneScape:Maintenance/Project ideas, which is pretty similar to what you're suggesting. --Iiii I I I 23:28, August 17, 2017 (UTC)

Oppose Although I appreciate you using me as an example, I'd rather not be pinged every 6 and a half seconds. --latest?cb=20170911143617Scuzzy Betalatest?cb=20170911144529 21:41, August 18, 2017 (UTC)

Oppose - not really necessary and would be confusing given we already have alot of groups/roles. Would be a burden on people in the groups and membership would be pretty subjective (with no criteria for what makes an editor qualified enough to be in one). Much easier for people to just ask their questions in the channels and have whoever is available answer them. Magic logs detailIsobelJTalk page 14:15, August 19, 2017 (UTC)
