A favicon is a 16x16 pixel image that browsers use to represent a website. A favicon says a lot about a website, and almost all reputable websites have well-made favicons that not only effectively identify the website but also complement the website's logo and match the overall style and theme of the website.
In its current form, RuneScape Wiki's favicon only identifies the website—and it even does a poor job at that. If you didn't know what it was supposed to say, it could just as easily say "PW". This isn't the Potter Wiki. The dark blue of the 'R' and the maroon of the 'W' simply don't mesh well—neither with each other nor the color scheme of the website. But even if the colors were consistent with the website, the overall style of the favicon would match that of simply nothing relating to the website.
Proposal - At the very least, the colors need to be changed so as to remove any ambiguity and illegibility. The ideal change, however, would involve completely scrapping the current favicon and changing it to match the color scheme of the website and the style of the logo.

- Ice, I agree with you. To me, the whole RW thing has always just felt not right. The thing is, though, it's a really small space, and the more content that's added, the more it just looks crowded and unprofessional. And it's especially bad for us because we need to adequately portray two ideas: that of "RuneScape" and "Wiki". 3 9 - Of the proposed so far, I like this the best. Because I haven't been paying much attention to this, are we having a vote on this here (because frankly consensus for 1 out of 13 icons is going to take ages), or is this going to RS:THEME?

18/9 - I like number 18 but the letters are a bit too close and kinda blend in together. Maybe there could be a little bit of white in between them? If that's not possible due to space constraints then I prefer 9 for the new favicon. Also, can someone point out the difference between 9 and 10? [[File:RW logo.png]] - Haven't seen this brought up. We obviously should change this as well, but are we going to just make it an enlarged version of the favicon? - By all means have a ridiculously large svg version, but it has to be a .ico file due to what theme designer accepts iirc. It can be overridden, but it's a bad idea.

KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid. If it works for industrial design, it works for us. NO fancy please, it will make it un-readable, and unnecessary. Also, PLEASE don't do the RS then W below, it looks too much like the \ / W used wayyyy too often as slang. My idea, LIGHT background, dark, block letters. 11 — minority view. I agree with Ice Rush above that simplicity is best for a favicon. This (or something similar) is an identifiable graphic, and easy for users to associate with RSWiki when showing on their tabs, URL bar, bookmarks, or history. The implementations with the several curly fonts look good as I sit here and deliberately examine them, but I believe they will just say blob to the majority who will see the favicon in their browser, but not focus on it.
The brackets should be reduced to 1px lines (or rather, the shading should be substantially lightened so that they don't appear to be 2px lines), but other than that I prefer this concept. Qloque (talk) 12:36, June 12, 2013 (UTC)
