A Fly Fishing Rod is used to fish Trout and Salmon and for members rainbow fish. It can be bought from fishing shops, such as Gerrant's Fishy Business in Port Sarim. Fly fishing rods use feathers as bait. Feathers may be obtained by killing birds (such as chickens) or buying from a store and other players. Stores that sell feathers can be found in Port Sarim, Shilo Village, Shantay Pass, south-eastern Varrock, Witchaven, and Lumbridge. Feathers can also be purchased in large amounts at the Grand Exchange.
Members can also use fly fishing rods with stripey feathers to fish for raw rainbow fish.

Players may use fly fishing rods at the following locations:
- For non-members:
- Just east of the Barbarian Village
- Lumbridge, on the River Lum
- For members:
- Seer's Village, behind the bank
- Entrana, near the bridge
- In the south-western corner of the Tree Gnome Stronghold
- Shilo Village (city)
- East of the Observatory
- West of the Fishing Guild, near Rasolo, on the River Dougne
