Telos[]

Telos, the Warden was first revealed during the Summer Summit, where it was shown to be a solo-only boss in the Heart of Gielinor. It would have multiple phases and drop new high-tiered weapons stated to be level 85 or higher, with one such revealed as the Seren godbow. The boss was also confirmed to have a boss pet on release, as well as the boss itself having a scaling difficulty based on how well you fought it before.

The arena Telos would reside in was based around the NXT client to show off its capabilities, as players would descend down floating platforms as they progressed during the fight.

Shattered Worlds[]

A new event referred to as Shattered Worlds was talked about with its early development. It would be an event based around rushing through otherworldly portals to fight waves of foes and completing various objectives along the way, and was stated to be used for streamer viewership.

The event would allow for competitive play against other players, comparing times, total scores and kill-counts, and having a hiscores system. There were not any stated requirements aside from membership to play Shattered Worlds.

Hunger Games[]

Hunger Games is the unofficial name for a PvP event where players would need to find and create their own equipment in a specialised arena and fight to the death, with the last player standing being declared the winner.

Raids 2[]

A second Raids batch update was looked at, with the update focusing around more raids creatures and bosses, possibly in new areas. Jagex also talked about looking for interest in smaller group raids or solo raids, as well as making raids more accessible to prepare players to battle more difficult bosses.

Slayer[]

Jagex talked about potentially making the Slayer skill cap at 120 instead of just 99, to allow for more high-level content. This was so they were able to use more mechanics, create more difficult combat encounters, and expand their list of powerful monsters. During RuneFest 2016, this was confirmed to be a major update for 2017.

Overworld bosses[]

The concept of overworld bosses was talked about, with large monsters that popped up every few hours or days, offering group combat content with varying rewards, including new weaponry. These are not currently in development.

New 2017 solo boss[]

There was talk about a new solo boss for 2017, but very little had been decided, and Jagex was interested in hearing ideas about factors such as difficulty and levels. With RuneFest 2016, this came to fruition in the form of The Ambassador.

New slayer dungeon[]

A new slayer dungeon was on Jagex's plans as a community aspect, where players must group up to explore and take down slayer creatures and clear the dungeon together.

Skilling[]

The Arc[]

Eastern Lands - The Arc concept art

The Arc is the most western area of the Eastern Lands, and was shown to be a new area with high-level skilling activities. It was planned to be released in two batches, and to have a system of procedurally generated islands with various resources called Uncharted Isles.

Skilling Pets[]

Due to the popularity of boss pets, Jagex made the idea of skilling pets public and was met with a positive response. They would be obtainable through most conventional skilling methods, and can be summoned through the pet interface.

Skilling hotspots[]

Skilling hotspots would be objects created through the Construction skill on the overworld, and would assist players with skilling in that location. There is the possibility they would be interactive with other players, as well. An example given is a crane at a mining spot.

Dungeoneering 2[]

A system similar to the original Dungeoneering was talked about, where it would be similar but more objective-based rather than simply killing a boss at the end. They stated it would not have forced group sizes, and would be able to do what dungeoneering currently cannot do. Floor 61 was also mentioned as a possible connection.

Skill mastery[]

Skill mastery is a system that Jagex had proposed as a way to specialise in skills, where players could master a specific part of a skill and be able to create better resources in that specification, such as smithing 2-handed sword with the Smithing skill would create stronger than normal swords. It was also mentioned that being a specialist in a skill would allow NPCs from across the game to recognise your talent in that specification.

Player-owned Farm[]

Players would be able to create a farm or greenhouse and be able to create and use their own farming plots, as well as raising livestock which would have various uses.

Mining and Smithing[]

A rework to the Mining and Smithing skills, levels to create, gather, and use various ingredients and items would be standardised. Plans for having improved mining nodes was also mentioned, which would negate depletion of resources and the need to hop worlds for further resources.

Quests[]

Desert quests[]

With the release of Menaphos, Jagex plans to include quests based around the crocodile goddess Crondis and potentially also Het, as well as continue with the rest of the desert quest series.

Fate of the Gods 2[]

Due to the popularity of the first quest, Fate of the Gods 2 is in production as part of the Sliske quest series, where Zamorak and Zaros will confront each other. It will also involve a number of other Mahjarrat as well as include another trip to Freneskae.

Sliske's Endgame[]

The finale of the Sliske quest series is shown to be planned for the end of the year in 2016, where players will confront SLiske, as well as having each of the choices they made in the previous quests play a part in the quest. The quest will also include deleted scenes as well as looking into how things would have been different with other choices. The quest supposedly "may not end in combat, but there will be a surprise".

Godless quests[]

The Godless were talked about having their own quests, which would include major characters from the Godless faction such as Kara-Meir and Biehn, and make the Godless a more serious and powerful faction.

Gnome quests[]

Gnome quests were briefly mentioned, involving further exploration of Arposandra. It was also mentioned that there would involve stealth and taking out warped terrorbird guards, as well as the possibility of the monkey alliance from Monkey Madness playing a part of the quests.

Elder god quest[]

An elder god related quest was mentioned, where one would be revealed and players would learn more about them and their goals.

Penguin quests[]

Penguin quests were briefly touched on in the stream, mentioning their unpredictability.

Elemental Workshop 5[]

A new elemental workshop quest was discussed, with new puzzles on a deeper floor.

Rite of Passage[]

The quest Rite of Passage was mentioned, briefly talking about Armadyl's homeworld and exploring the citadel-like floating islands.

Death of Chivalry 2[]

Jagex mentioned a sequel to Sir Owen's quest Death of Chivalry, with further interactions between Owen and Saradomin, as well as the inclusion of centaurs and potentially other signature heroes.

Dimension of Disaster 2[]

A different variant of Dimension of Disaster, instead checking out an alternative Falador, with the winning villains possibly being the Black knights or the Sea Slugs.

Pirate quests[]

Continuation of the zombie pirate quest series was discussed, with further exploration into the pirate's true schemes, as well as possibly involving Xau-Tak, a mysterious god.

Gower Quest[]

A quest themed around the Gower Brothers, who originally made RuneScape, was already in production. It involves the brothers, who are cabbagemancers, and need the player's help in finding out why cabbages have stopped growing. The quest would also involve characters who have been removed from the game.

Other[]

Summer of Adventure[]

Jagex revealed their plans for the Summer of Adventure promotion. This gave the players their first look at the return of the Summer Beach Party, along with the introduction of new content such as the Deathmatch arena and the Illumination aura.

Port Sarim rework[]

Port Sarim was looked at being the next target of a graphical update. This came alongside the Port Sarim Invasion event.

Clue scroll rework[]

A Treasure Trails rework was discussed during the Summit, with a new tier of clue scroll beyond elite being a new addition, as well as various new rewards and skilling activities that players must do to progress in their clue scrolls.

Clan Citadels rework[]

Clan citadels are mentioned as a project to be revisited, with new plots and activities for the clan members. There would also be a reword of the coding to run more efficiently.

Menaphos[]

The city of Menaphos in the southern Kharidian Desert is one of the major projects, and will include some new quests, dungeoneering and thieving elements, and potentially the soul altar.

Underwater city[]

An underwater city was talked about, as a lost civilisation based on salvaging what one can. Players would explore a sunken city to find inhabitants. It would have its own objectives and lore, as well as combat and skilling activities.

Eastern lands Skull regions[]

After The Arc is finished, Jagex stated they would look at how players enjoyed and liked the content and possibly work on the next area of the Eastern Lands, the Skull. It would be based more around explosive manufacturing such as gunpowder production.

Mysterious continent[]

An undiscovered continent was talked about, where players will be the first pioneers to investigate it to find cultures, quests and skilling points. The content on this new land would be slowly built up throughout the year of its release.

Bank rework[]

A bank rework was mentioned, with the ability to use item placeholders, loot tabs, and increase performance across the board.

2017[]

For 2017's content schedule, Jagex released a survey of what players want to see for the coming year. The answers from the players who took the survey would be revealed during the RuneFest 2016 event.

One of the larger projects shows was a Construction rework, which would allow every room to have doors on any side, as well as customising where certain furniture can be placed. The loading screen would also possibly be removed or given a toggle.
