The Menaphite language is a language spoken by the Menaphite people of the Kharidian Desert. Hieroglyphs are used to represent each character in the language, and it is featured on a range of structures such as temples and pyramids throughout the desert.

The holy book of the Menaphite Pantheon, the Book of Light and Day,[1] is traditionally written in the Menaphite language. According to Reldo, the librarian of Varrock Palace, the High Priest of Icthlarin recently sent him an excerpt of the text depicting Tumeken's Dream, which was written in "Menaphosian."[2] It is probable that this is related to, if not synonymous with, the greater Menaphite language.

Script[]

Additionally, the language has a unique script, represented by twenty-six characters. The script is fairly simple, with each character having an equivalent in the Latin alphabet, and all known usages of it are written in the common tongue, and it appears to be unrelated to the hieroglyphs used throughout the desert. The script was introduced alongside the Stolen Hearts and Diamond in the Rough quests, and can be found used on range of ancient structures throughout the Kharidian Desert.

Menaphite hieroglyphics in Uzer Mastaba.

Many examples of the Menaphite script can be found inside Uzer Mastaba, in particular on walls and door frames and lintels. There are several wall plaques in a room directly adjacent to the mastaba's entrance; these depict a number of hieroglyphs with no certain meaning, although it is likely that they do in fact represent a Menaphite text, since several symbols can be found elsewhere in the tomb and, for instance, a bird and a wave can be found, which are often used to symbolise Tumeken and Elidinis, respectively.

The mastaba also has a number of fake doors whose frames and lintels are decorated with hieroglyphs. Some of these messages can be read, including

Many examples of a similar if not identical script are also to be found around Menaphos itself.

Script can be found on the weights protecting the Kharid-ib in Al Kharid palace during Stolen Hearts. Before being moved from their base position, they collectively read TMKN HEARS.

The Scabaras and Apmeken tombs from Diamond in the Rough and Do No Evil have the letters H, A, C and S next to the symbols of Het, Apmeken, Crondis and Scabaras, respectively. I and A can similarly be found above the pictures of Icthlarin and Amascut, and the word WAR can be found between them.

Significant amounts of Menaphite script are used in the Golden Path Challenge. The complete Menaphite alphabet can be found on the sundial near Menaphos.

On the banner advertisement for Menaphos on the game's front page, there is some Menaphite script in a small font that reads THE GOLDEN CITY.
