Jarvald is a Fremennik raider who leads expeditions to Waterbirth Island. He can be found on the most western-most dock in Rellekka. Players can pay 1,000 coins to journey to the island. However, after completing The Fremennik Trials quest, the player can join the expedition to this "place of outstanding natural beauty" for free.
As Jarvald explains, this beauty has been tarnished of late by a surge in the population of dagannoths, (or "daggermouths", as the Fremennik call them). They can be found crawling around in the island's underground caverns along with similar beasties. The warriors of Rellekka are delighted by this as as they now have the chance to hunt the beasts, as their ancestors did before them.
The hat Jarvald wears was made by Skulgrimen from the carcass of one of the monsters on Waterbirth Island, slain in a previous hunt. Jarvald hopes to kill more creatures on the next expedition so that he can have more armour fashioned from their remains.
