Experiment

From the RuneScape Wiki, the wiki for all things RuneScape

(Redirected from Experiments)

Experiments can be found in the Experiment Cave which can be accessed during Creature of Fenkenstrain quest. Completing the whole quest is not required to kill them, as you can simply push the farthest memorial from the castle and you will enter finding quite a few of them.

The level 25 experiment gives 400 experience, hits very low, and has a lot of health for its level, making it one of the easiest monsters to level up the combat skills. The experiments respawn time is approximately 50 seconds. They have virtually no accuracy, strength, or defence whatsoever, so most people do not bring armour when fighting these. It was one of the chief training tools before Pest Control first came out. Since the updates to Pest Control which lowered the experience gained by about 30%, it is once again considered one of the best combat training tools in RuneScape. There are seven Experiment spawns in the Experiment cave, four sheep dogs and three spider-men. There is always one kind beside another.

The level 51 experiment may only be killed once, (unless you drop the cavern key obtained by killing it), during the Creature of Fenkenstrain quest. It is significantly stronger than the level 25 experiments, with a max hit of 7.

Experiments are comparable to Hill Giants in free to play worlds in that it is normally a battle around each spawn point to gain the experience, although these are much better for training, and normally less crowded.

It is a good place for training pures, especially if you have sacred clay equipment, as then you will get a massive 800 experience per kill, and few other training monsters can rival the speed and lack of food that you need for these.

Note: Training Magic against the Experiments may not be cost-effective considering they have no drops (other than bones) to offset the cost of runes.

[edit] Trivia

  • The half sheep, half wolf may refer to the saying "A wolf in sheep's clothing", or possibly a sheep dog. The possibility of "sheepdog" may come also from the Beatles' song "Hey bulldog", where they sing "Sheepdog".
  • The half man and spider may refer to Spider-Man.
  • An Experiment bone, which differs from the usual bones dropped by Experiments, are common drops used in the Rag and Bone Man quest. This bone cannot be buried.
  • When calculating combat level the only way this creature can have combat level 25 and 100 hp, is if all of its other combat statistics are 1. This is however dependant on whether RuneScape monsters without armour use the same combat calculating methods as players, and whether unofficial calculators are precisely accurate.
  • Despite being half-wolf and half-sheep, the attack sound for the canine experiment is the same as any normal wolf rather than a sheep or ram.
