An Excresence is dropped by Mutated jadinko babies, Mutated jadinko guards and Mutated jadinko males. Two of them can be used to make bolas, when added to a mutated vine. As this material is untradeable and at present there is no other known use for it, slayers may wish to either fletch all their excrescences into bolas, or else avoid picking them up entirely.

More mutated vines are dropped than excrescences, and thus the limiting factor as to how many bolas one may craft is half the number of excrescences dropped. However, mutated vines are tradeable.

Although there is some mystery surrounding what the objects are, they are most likely outgrowths from the mutant bodies of the creatures, per the usual meaning of the word "excrescence".
