To receive an Excalibur the player must complete the Merlin's Crystal quest to a certain point. It's seen again in the Holy Grail quest, and can be recovered if lost by paying 500 coins to the Lady of the Lake south of Taverley. It can be displayed in a player-owned house with 42 Construction. This weapon cannot be made using the Smithing skill.
It has a special attack called Sanctuary. This raises the user's defence by 8 levels while they shout "For Camelot!" The special is instantaneous, so while it can be used outside of combat, it is more effective when used in combat.
This weapon has the same bonuses as an Adamant longsword, except Strength, and a slight magic bonus, with the addition of a special attack.
This weapon also has a good special attack for mage tanks because of its defence raising capabilities.
It should however be noted that this is one of the items never retained upon death; you will have to return to the Lady of the Lake to get another one. She will charge you 500 coins to return the sword.
The Lady of the Lake will turn this weapon into the enhanced excalibur after completing the hard Seers' Village Tasks. Because of an update, you no longer need to be wearing the Seer's Headband3 when you speak with her in order to have the weapon enchanted. After completing the elite Seers' Village Tasks your Enhanced Excalibur's special attack will heal twice as much (400 Life points rather than 200). Note, however, that players cannot mount it for display in their Quest Hall after the enhancement. You can get another excalibur for 500 coins by talking with Lady of the Lake, even if you have mounted one in your house.
The defensive boost is commonly used in the following situations:
- Activities (e.g. Pest Control)
- Before fighting
- During PKing
- When fighting boss monsters (such as Elvarg)
- When out of food during fights (or for saving food)
- Passing through dangerous areas where you don't want to kill the monsters (e.g. running through dungeons as a shortcut)
- Escaping from fights
- When using Zamorak brews
- When fighting another player in duel arena or other PvP Events

Trivia
Edit
- On 20 January 2009, the inventory image for Excalibur was updated to coincide with the release of the Seers' Village Tasks. Players who had Excalibur, or did the quest, before the update still have the old inventory model, even when trying to buy a new one.
- Excalibur is one of the few weapons to have a specific name. Others include Silverlight, Darklight, Keris, Barrelchest Anchor and Balmung.
- A previous glitch occurred where a player could type something and enter it at a certain time to replace the "For Camelot!" This has now been fixed due to a Hidden Update.
- Despite having adamant longsword's stats, it requires only level 20 Attack.
- The movement performed in during the special is close to the movement used by the Royal Navy (UK) when performing a long salute; (bringing sword up to face then down behind to side). This is also the standard salute in competitive fencing.
- If you use Excalibur's special attack in a POH chair, the animation will occur, but the sword will not be shown.
- Despite the name Excalibur and the examine text, this sword is not the Excalibur used by King Arthur. This is seen when comparing the looks of Excalibur to pictures of Excalibur in real life. The sword King Arthur wields is the real Excalibur.
