Drop parties are events in which players drop items for fun, and other players try to pick them up first. Drop parties are sometimes held in the Falador Party Room. From 17 March 2009 to 1 February 2011, players could only hold drop parties in worlds 131 (M), 152, 103 (M), and 102. Jagex justified this change as a way of further combating Real world trading. With the return of Free trade and the old-style wilderness, drop parties can now be held anywhere in Gielinor, on any world.

Drop parties are often advertised in the events section of the Official forums on the RuneScape website. Some scammers falsely advertise drop parties in order to obtain donations from other players to drop, but many drop parties are legitimate. Drops at drop parties may range from junk, like tin ore, to extremely valuable discontinued items, such as party hats.

Types of drop parties[]

There are two types of drop parties:

Traditional drop parties[]

Players would manually drop items on the floor. The host would have to run to a bank to retrieve items after dropping their inventory. It is a common practice to use Telekinetic Grab at such parties, even though this is often frowned upon. It is also quite common for players to plant marker plants, place clan vexillums, or set up box traps on predicted item spawning spots. This makes it more difficult for other players to retrieve the dropped items, and is also frowned upon and seen as "trolling."

Falador Party Room[]

In the Party Room, different players can put items into the chest, and they will be released at the same time. Before the balloons were implemented, it was impossible to cast Telekinetic Grab inside the room.

Drop update[]

Prior to the Drop changes on 1 February 2011, but after 2 January 2008, drop parties could only be held in the Falador Party Room. Before this update, all players aside from the dropper were not able to see items worth more than 3,000 coins when they were dropped onto the ground (even after 60 seconds, as it was prior to this update). This was caused by the 'Unbalanced Trade Removal" update on 2 January 2008.

The Unbalanced Trade Removal update stopped players from the popular scam "Drop Trading" and trading items to another account which is against the Rules of Conduct. It also stopped one of the many methods for Real world trading.

This update was one of the main reasons for the World 66 Riot.

As of 1 February 2011, free trade is re-introduced and a dropped item of a value higher than 3,000 coins will appear.
