A Dreadfowl is a familiar requiring level 4 Summoning and a Dreadfowl pouch to summon. Dreadfowls are able to provide a temporary boost of +1 to the player's Farming skill.

Dreadfowl pouch is made by using a Summoning pouch on a Summoning obelisk with 8 spirit shards, a Gold charm and a raw chicken in the inventory. Making the pouch earns 9.3 experience points. Using the pouch to summon a Dreadfowl gains 0.1 experience points, and costs 1 Summoning point.

Dreadfowl strike scroll enables the use of the dreadfowl strike special move for a Dreadfowl. Using the pouch on a Summoning obelisk creates 10 scrolls and provides 0.1 experience.

Dreadfowl strike is the special move from the Dreadfowl which can hit up to 3 hitpoints damage with a long-range, magic-based attack. It is activated using a Dreadfowl strike scroll and uses 3 special move points. Activating it provides 0.1 experience.
A dreadfowl can occasionally use this special attack without a scroll.

At level 14 summoning, the player can understand their dreadfowl. The following is what it might say.
- Dreadfowl: Attack! Fight! Annihilate!
Player: It always worries me when you're so happy saying that.
- Dreadfowl: Can it be fightin' time, please?
Player: Look I'll find something for you to fight, just give me a second.
- Dreadfowl: I want to fight something.
Player: I'll find something for you in a minute - just be patient.

- The examine text "Southern fried" refers to a way of cooking fried chicken which has its origin in the Southern United States.
- The Dreadfowl's magical Dreadfowl Strike attack resembles the attack used by the Evil Chicken.
