Dragon pickaxe detail

The dragon pickaxe is the fastest and most powerful pickaxe in the game with a mining speed faster than a rune pickaxe or inferno adze. It requires 60 Attack to wield and level 61 Mining to use. However, some players prefer the rune pickaxe or inferno adze because of their much lower prices.

Dragon pickaxes were released with the quest Forgiveness of a Chaos Dwarf on 9 September 2009. They are very rare drops from Chaos dwogres, Chaos dwarf hand cannoneers, and Chaos dwarves on the Chaos Dwarf Battlefield after completion of the quest. The quest does not need to be completed in order to use this item. The ring of wealth does not affect the chance to get the pickaxe as a drop.

The dragon pickaxe can be gilded by the Liquid gold nymph after receiving the full golden mining suit, creating the gilded dragon pickaxe. It is cosmetic and gives no more bonuses than the regular pickaxe.

Special attack

Dragon pickaxe
The dragon pickaxe's special attack, "Shock."
Like all other dragon weapons, the dragon pickaxe has a Special Attack, "Shock", which drains 5% of an opponent's Attack, Ranged and Magic levels upon a successful hit. This attack takes longer to perform than a normal attack and uses 100% of the Special Attack bar.

Trivia

  • After being the subject of many rumours over the years, Mod Mark confirmed that it was in development on 5 March 2009 (see Update:RuneScape Q&A – Further Answers).
  • Players have done tests to determine the speed of the pickaxe as compared to a rune pickaxe, and they have found that when using the dragon pickaxe, they get approximately 10% more pure essence in a set amount of time as compared to the amount of essence mined in the same amount of time using a rune pickaxe.[source needed] Testing has also yielded an approximate 15% increase in speed in the living rock caverns on concentrated gold ores. Other testing has revealed that at level 80-85 the dragon pickaxe gives approximately 40-50% mining speed increase at the Living Rock Caverns while mining coal or gold.[1]
  • This weapon's Special Attack is similar to those of the ancient mace and barrelchest anchor as well as the attacks of the Dungeoneering and Chaotic mauls.
  • When borrowed and stored in your bank, the display for the item does not show up, but the red borrowed item dot does.
