Dragon longsword

From the RuneScape Wiki, the wiki for all things RuneScape

The Dragon longsword is the second strongest longsword available, the strongest being Vesta's longsword. It can only be wielded by members who have at least 60 Attack and who have completed the Lost City quest. The dragon longsword has a special attack, Cleave, which increases damage for one hit, using 25% of the special attack energy. If you will note, the Dragon Scimitar and the Dragon Longsword have the same special attack in terms of animation with the scimitar's fast blur, and the longsword's animation a glowing blade of bloodred.
It was, at one point, the best weapon available in RuneScape. It is a rare drop from revenant dragons, greater reborn warriors and the corporeal beast.

The dragon longsword can be purchased in the Zanaris marketplace for 100,000 coins, although it is strongly recommended to buy it from other players either through the Grand Exchange or simply trading, as it is about 10,000 coins cheaper. It can also be obtained by looting a dragon impling found either in the Impetuous Impulses minigame or roaming around RuneScape.

The longsword is a favorite for medium level players buying their first dragon weapon as it has a low cost yet can still inflict reasonable damage, known to hit over 60 points of damage with the special attack. For a long time, prior to the introduction of the abyssal whip, this was the weapon of choice for both player killing and training. The weapon suffers from a stereotype in which it is labelled as a "noob" weapon, due to its popularity with inexperienced and/or medium level players. Despite this, it can be considered one of the best one-handed melee weapons in the game.

Like all longswords it is a one-handed weapon. Its holding position is similar to the position in which the blurite sword is held, although when walking/running its holding position is the same as any other longsword. The dragon longsword, along with a rune defender, is also a cheap option for a weapon when fighting the corporeal beast for those who do not wish to spend money on a dragon halberd or Zamorakian spear.

As with all dragon equipment (besides the dragon platebody and the dragon sq shield), this item can't be made with the Smithing skill.

Around April 2009, Dragon Longswords suffered a harsh price drop. From 13 May, 2009, it had gone down from 95k to 67k, dropping around 29.5%. The price decline has since stopped and the dragon longsword remains at a steady price.

[edit] Trivia

  • On 23 July 2009, five days before the scheduled update, the Dragon longsword image in the Grand Exchange Database was replaced by the new model. Players found the image and posted about it in the RuneScape Forums, making it widely known before Jagex removed the image a few hours later. Five days later the image was once again put up along with the official release.
  • Before the 28 July 2009 graphic update, a player would appear taller wielding a Dragon longsword than a Dragon dagger.
