The Dragon spear is the fourth strongest spear available, just after Vesta's spear, the Zamorakian Spear, and Guthan's warspear. The two-handed weapon can be wielded by members who have at least 60 Attack. As with most spears, it may be poisoned (the Zamorakian Spear, Vesta's spear and Guthan's Warspear, however, cannot be poisoned). It is dropped by most monsters that drop gems or a Shield left half.
The dragon spear has a special attack, Shove, which pushes a suitable target back a square and stuns it for three seconds, using up 25% of a player's special attack energy. The spear was commonly used in the Bounty Hunter minigame to push players away from the door until the Bounty Worlds update on 6 May 2009, and in Castle Wars to push players into a cleared passage, which, when collapsed, causes instant death to anyone in it. The Dragon Spear is also a cheap option for a weapon when fighting the Corporeal Beast for those who do not wish to spend so much money on a Dragon Halberd or Zamorakian Spear. Shove, however, cannot be used against large monsters that take up more than one square, such as the big wolf. If a player tries this, the special attack does not occur (no special attack energy is used up), and a message appears in the chat box: "That creature is too large to knock back!"
The Dragon spear is perfect for players who do not wish to complete any quests to get their first dragon weapon. The spear is very very versatile, having attack bonuses and attack styles for stab, slash, and crush. The Dragon spear also provides a 5+ defence bonus to every field of defence, including magic, making it the perfect weapon for bounty world +1, because, not only can you attack using stab, and slash, for platebody and chainbody. Adding Karambwan Paste makes it even more deadly, as players can't cure the poison with a standard antipoison. The Dragon spear also is priced around the same as a rune scimitar, while providing much better attack bonuses and strength.
The special attack has lately been used in PvP worlds, north-west of the Grand Exchange. As unsuspecting players use the Edgeville shortcut, the special is used to knock the other player back to the Wilderness line, which is multi-combat. This can allow players wearing Void Knight armour and wielding Dark bows to kill a target player in 1 hit. The special also initiates combat but does NOT cause werewolves to transform.
The dragon spear can be poisoned with any type of poison, including Karambwan paste.
As with all dragon weapons (except the Dragon platebody and the Dragon sq shield), this item cannot be made using the Smithing skill.
