Dharok's greataxe

An inventory image of Dharoks Greataxe

Dharok's greataxe is a melee weapon that is part of Dharok the Wretched's set of barrows equipment. This two handed weapon requires 70 Attack and 70 Strength to wield. It has the fifth highest slash attack bonus in the game with +103 and the second highest crush attack bonus with +95. As with all Barrows equipment, this item cannot be made using the Smithing skill.

If Dharok's greataxe is wielded along with all of the other pieces of equipment in Dharok's barrows set, the player receives a special attack. Attacks do more damage as the player's Hitpoints decrease, up to double damage at 10% hitpoints. The maximum hit with the Dharok set effect is believed to be 112, however with the Extreme strength potion, this has probably gone higher. This weapon is very slow, the same speed as a Two-handed sword, and opponents can attack you multiple times before you can attack once. However, this weapon's power, slashing attacks as well as crushing attacks make up for this disadvantage.

This axe is often obtained by rich or high level woodcutters and used with their Woodcutting skill cape to show their high level in Woodcutting and look like the Woodcutting tutor. However, a Dharok's greataxe cannot be used for actually cutting down trees.

The axe will degrade from 100 to 75 then to 50 and so on. This weapon can be fixed at Bob's Axes in Lumbridge, Tindel Merchant in Port Khazard and Dunstan in his house in Burthorpe. The price depends on how much it has degraded. It costs 100,000 coins to fully fix it. The way the player holds the greataxe depends on whether it is degraded or not. Wielding a non degraded greataxe makes it more of a Granite maul or a Tzhaar-ket-om hold, while wielding a degraded greataxe looks more like a Dragon longsword.

Dharok's greataxe is commonly used in the TzHaar city to fight the TzHaar-Ket and TzHaar-Xil, as it gives high strength bonuses and can be used to deal high damage to them. Dharoking is a form of combat which people use in quite a few places e.g. in clan wars people will run in and hit someone then run out with very low hitpoints ocassionally 1 hit killing people.

On 28 July 2009, the axe received a graphical makeover.

[edit] Trivia

The old look of Dharok's Greataxe.
  • In the quest While Guthix Sleeps, at one point the player's combat stats are increased to 255. Theoretically the Dharok set special would be able to hit 270+ on the Tormented Demon; however the player's hitpoints will instantly restore to 255 when damage is taken, so it is not possible for a player to lower their hitpoints enough.
  • During the Graphical Update, Dharok's Axe was first held over the shoulder, with both hands, then over the shoulder again, then it got glitched because Jagex kept on varying it. This has been fixed by Jagex. To do the glitch, players would hold a Dharok's Axe and open their combat interface menu. It would glitch and result in it being held to something like a Dragon longsword.
  • After the 28 July 2009 Animation Pack updates, the great axe held by Dharok the Wretched at the Barrows minigame stayed the same as greataxes were before this update.
  • The graphics of the greataxe in a player's inventory remained the same after the graphical update, and differs from when it is equipped in terms of looks. After the Champion's Challenge and Hairstyles update, the sprite was changed to match the look of the greataxe when you wield it.
  • Currently the dharok's greataxe has no proper walking or running animation. it has a default animation, similar to a player running/walking with it in a free world.
  • The axe appears to have a different inventory sprite for every level of degradation (100, 75, 50, 25, 0). It is the only degrading item to do so, most others only have a "100" and "0" (or "worn-out") sprite.
  • The difference bewteen the Dharok's greataxe inventory icon and weilded model were resolved on November 9th, 2009.
