A crystal saw is an item made from a small crystal seed by invoking the singing bowl in Brimstail's cave in the Tree Gnome Stronghold. The seed is awarded to players who complete The Eyes of Glouphrie quest.
The saw adds a hidden +3 bonus to the player's Construction skill. This allows the player to construct items as if their Construction level was higher by 3, although this advantage is not applicable when constructing things that do not require a saw, such as monsters, plants, or rooms. This bonus is stackable with drinking the teas and spicy stews that already boost this skill, only for objects requiring a saw to make, trying to use both a combination of spicy stews and crystal saw to build a room that is over +6 levels (depending on the type of stew you have) higher than your current level does not work.
However, once the saw has been used to construct 28 items, it reverts to its seed form where it will need to be re-enchanted by returning to Brimstail's cave. Ilfeen is also able to recharge this seed, if you have completed Roving elves.
Trying to conserve charges when building something the player already has the Construction level for by having a normal saw in their inventory at the same time does not work, even if the normal saw is ahead of the crystal saw in a player's inventory. Each item still takes away one charge of the crystal saw even if the player already had the level necessary to build it.
The Crystal saw can also be used in the Sawmill training Area in place of a regular saw. This will not use any of its charges and gives double experience when creating the required planks (however, it will not double the reward for the completion of a job).
If you lose or destroy the saw, you can get it back by talking to Brimstail in his cave.

- It was once possible to obtain multiple crystal saws when The Path of Glouphrie was released. The crystal seeds properties were the same as The Eyes of Glouphrie's crystal seed. A player could use the seed to create another crystal saw in Brimstail's cave. After the player used the seed Brimstail would give them another seed, with a conversation claiming that the player 'lost' the seed. This could be repeated multiple times. However, Jagex removed this glitch a few weeks after the quest's release.
- Ilfeen is the one who gave Oaknock the crystal saw in the first place, and even calls him young gnome!
