A Crossbow is the weakest crossbow and the weakest bow overall in RuneScape, along with the Phoenix crossbow. It does, however, have the advantage of being wield-able with with a shield, unlike long/short bows. It requires a Ranged level of 1 to wield, and can only use bronze bolts. The crossbow and Phoenix crossbow are the only two crossbows available in free play. However, due to their severe lack of power and ranged attack bonus, they are rarely (if ever) used.

It can be recommended at Al Kharid for safe-spot ranging scorpions for experience because of low bolt cost in free play, costing only 12,000 to raise an average of 36,000 experience at level 50 Ranged.
