The crashed rock initially appeared on 24 May 2015 at 19:00 UTC during the Tuska Comes world event teaser. It was temporarily south of Barbarian Village before vanishing after being mined by players, though it did not appear on all worlds.

After the teaser on 24 May, Jagex Moderators can spawn a crashed rock for players to interact with as demonstrated in a livestream on 26 May 2015.

It is possible to obtain meteor shards from mining it and killing the strange insects that spawn from it.

After being mined a certain amount, the crashed rock will vanish and release a docile strange insect that can be lured to Airuts near the Phoenix Lair in the Piscatoris Hunter area.

They continue to fall as fallen rocks during the world event as a mineable source of Anima Mundi on the crystal island, and as a source of mysterious herbs on the plant nurturing island. If they crash nearby, your screen will shake, and if they crash where your character is standing, the character will jump out of the way.

Trivia

  • On several worlds, the crashed rock respawned as an unmineable object. This resulted in some players getting trapped underneath it. If players got stuck under the rock, they could not walk out from under it. They had to go to a world where there was no rock or teleport to get free.
  • During a livestream on 26 May 2015, Mod JD attempted to spawn a crashed rock in World 16 and caused the world to go offline for over an hour.
