RuneScape Classic
Edit
In RuneScape Classic, failing to pickpocket non-player characters (NPCs) would cause them to attack the player instead of simply being dazed and taking some damage. During combat in RuneScape Classic, a player could not run from combat for the first three rounds. This lead to many players killing an NPC that they were attempting to pickpocket before much Thieving experience could be gained.
However, at this time, the Cocktail shaker could also be drank from, even when completely empty. This lowered a player's Attack level, much like drinking wine or many other alcoholic beverages in RuneScape. Thus, a player would hit their mark much less often, allowing one to pickpocket a single NPC longer before accidentally killing one. This was eventually fixed by Jagex before the release of the current version of RuneScape.
