Climbing boots are used in the Death Plateau, Troll Stronghold, Eadgar's Ruse, and Troll Romance quests. They also make the Desert Treasure quest a lot easier. They can be taken to the blacksmith, Dunstan, in Burthorpe, alongside an iron bar to produce spiked boots.
After finishing Death Plateau, players may buy climbing boots from Tenzing the sherpa for 12 gp. They are most commonly used to scale the Death Plateau Troll shortcut. It is highly recommended that you purchase them through this method, as the Grand Exchange price is much higher.
These boots are also commonly used by pures because of the +2 bonus in strength which is equal to that of rune boots which require 40 defence to wear and also cost considerably more. Although rune boots give significantely better defence bonuses than climbing boots.
