Chaos rune running (or simply Chaos running) is a mutual exchange between players in which runners bring un-noted pure essence to runecrafters for Chaos runes. The Chaos Crafting Company of World 46 was founded on 13 July 2007. Chaos running became uncommon sometime in late 2007, and is rarely performed today. The Chaos altar is presently in level 9 Wilderness.
Runners bring 27 unnoted pure essences to the east gate of Varrock and follow the path north to the Saradomin statue which is the entrance to the Tunnel of Chaos. Crafters who are wearing grey robes will trade for 27 Chaos runes, then go through the tunnel to the Chaos altar to obtain more runes to trade. Crafters must have completed the What Lies Below quest in order to use the shortcut.Runners get runes without the risk of dying and losing items in exchange for crafters going the long way to get Runecrafting experience.
As of 29 August 2008, it is nearly impossible to see other players there.
