Cave crawler

From the RuneScape Wiki, the wiki for all things RuneScape

Cave crawlers are Slayer monsters that require level 10 slayer to kill. They drop a variety of herblore related items and a few seeds. They are, however, poisonous, and have an extremely fast healing rate (approximately 1 health pointper sec) making them somewhat more dangerous than their combat level suggests. While fighting the level 23's a player shouldn't need much food. About 4-6 cakes worth (48 health-72 health healed) should do for a player with a decent defence level and is quick to drink an antipoison when poisoned.

Cave crawlers are also a popular delicacy amongst the Dorgeshuun cave goblins, who cut them into fillets and serve them on a large platter. The poisonous parts of their body are presumably removed. Consequently, they are weak to all bone weapons, including Zanik's crossbow, which makes short work of most assignments.

In the quest Fur 'n' Seek, its hide must be collected and cleaned for the Odd Old Man.

[edit] Strengths and weaknesses

Cave crawlers poison fairly often so it is advised that players bring at least one anti-poison potion when fighting them. Their poison is fairly powerful and will initially cause 8 damage. Drinking a Super antipoison, prior to engaging in combat with them will prevent being poisoned, for a good amount of time.

The level 138 cave crawlers are in a multi-combat zone, and it is recommended that you use a Dwarf multicannon and protect from melee to slay. However, a slayer task may use up to around 1500 cannonballs to complete using this method. Level 138 Cave Crawlers are also considered large creatures so the Dragon halberd special will hit them twice making fighting them with melee in the Desert Slayer Dungeon easier with rocks to stand behind after they stop auto attacking you.

Level 23 and 138 cave crawlers drop all of the required components for many potions such as Prayer potion (Vial of water, Ranarr weed and Snape grass) at a fairly regular rate, allowing players to stay in the area for longer. They also drop all the ingredients for both Antipoison and Super Antipoison which is very handy considering they poison so frequently. Some other useful potions made from their drops are Restore potion, Strength potion, Super strength potion, Super attack potion, Prayer potion and Super defence potion.

Another good thing about these are that you can use the maximum power of Dharok's set here, when you walk down be sure to wear eamuff/facemask combined to avoid unessesary damage, when outsite cave crawlers remove the facemask and put on full Dharok, Cave crawlers will hit 10's on you constantly until your health is down to 1(smoke can NOT kill you) bring some antipotions (preferably Super anti pot or better to negate the chance of dying of poison. Turn protect from melee on and drink your anti poison potion, run into the middle using protection from melee (This should be done with EXTREME caution as cave crawlers are more then capable of killing you instantly if your prayer deactivates) .

The good thing about this way is that your Health will constantly stay at 1 allowing you to deal maximum damage, and by using protect from melee constantly and using strong anti potions will totally negate the death possibility, though this should be done with caution.
