A Candle is a Firemaking item which can be purchased from the general store in Keldagrim, the Candle Shop in Catherby, the Tai Bwo Wannai or Shilo Village shops on Karamja, other players, or the candle seller near the Lumbridge Swamp Caves entrance, who charges 1,000 coins.
A player can also steal a candle from north of the altar in the Entrana church with level 20 Thieving. There is also a lit candle spawn on the ground floor of the Watchtower in Yanille, second floor of the Sword Shop in Varrock, or the Monastery south of Ardougne.
Candles need to be extinguished before they can be traded or sold.
Most candles are white, but there is also a black candle used during Merlin's Crystal quest, obtained from the Candle Maker in Catherby.
When lit with a tinderbox, it is used to enter dark dungeons like the Lumbridge Cellar cave and the Mole Dungeon. Lit candles will not stay lit forever and will eventually go out; it is advisable to always carry a tinderbox when using a candle for a light source.
Players who enter the Lumbridge Swamp Caves with candles should be careful, as they tend to ignite swamp gas in certain areas. The explosion will extinguish the candle, cause about 15 hitpoints worth of damage, and leave players at the mercy of whatever lurks in the dark until the candle is relit.
Candles are also used in various quests such as Enlightened Journey and Enakhra's Lament .
Candles are also used to make origami balloons, which is possible after the Enlightened Journey quest.
