Elite Mobs concept art - Camel

Concept art

Camel Warriors (also known as Ugthanatos) are slayer creatures that require level 96 Slayer to kill. They can be found on the island east of Sophanem. Their prize drop is the camel staff, a level 85 staff which provides unlimited fire runes.

According to The Ugthanatos, Akthanakos created the Ugthanatos to deal with his nemesis, Enakhra. He expressed gladness at the results, as they had the traits he desired and had powerful combat skills due to giving them the ability to manipulate limbs, which regular camels did not have. The Ugthanatos worship Akthanakos, calling him the "camel god".

Location[]

Ten Camel Warriors inhabit an island slightly offshore, inbetween Sophanem and the ruins of Ullek. The island is accessed via stepping stones (no Agility needed) near a large group of crocodiles. The area is affected by desert heat.

Mechanics[]

Once attacked, the Camel Warrior will almost immediately split into three mirages; a blood, shadow and smoke mirage. Camel Warriors themselves do not use spells from the ancient spellbook; their mirages do this instead. They have their own standard attacks; their ranged attack is their spit and the magic attack a small dust tornado.

The mirages use magic attacks and spells from the ancient spellbook. Smoke spells reduce accuracy, shadow reduces damage, blood heals for 5% of the damage dealt and ice binds for 10 seconds. Each mirage has 11,250 life points, and has a max hit of about 1,000. The blood mirage heals its fellow mirages for up to 900 life points each for each attack it performs, regardless if it hits the player or not. The healing only applies to the mirages that it was summoned with, so it will not heal mirages of another camel. The shadow mirage has an adrenaline bar over its head, which fills as it attacks. When completely filled, it will launch a curse at the player that drains a massive amount of your prayer points. It can also perform Weaken on the player. The smoke mirage does not have any unique mechanics, apart from the ability to cast Confuse on the player.

It is recommended to kill the shadow mirage first, then followed up by the blood and smoke mirage. Since the mirages can stack heavy damage, it is recommended to kill one quickly, then bind the blood mirage and go under it. Doing so prevents the blood mirage from attacking you, which will temporarily stop it from being able to heal its mirages. If the blood mirage breaks free and the remaining mirage is not killed yet, bind it again.

The camel will appear again at the location of the last mirage killed. Throughout the fight with the main camel, a bar will appear above its head, similar to the shadow mirage. When this bar fills they will either use a sandstorm attack which deals 50 damage initially then doubles every tick until it disappears, or use the prayer draining attack the shadow mirages use. The sandstorm attack is signified when the camel bashes its staff into the ground.

While the camel warrior is not immune to stuns and binds, doing so will result in the camel using its powerful sandstorm attack once it breaks free. The sandstorm doubles in damage every 0.6 seconds, quickly killing any player who stands in the area for several seconds. It can be easily avoided though, so stunning and binding them is recommended if you need to kill it quickly.

Camel Warriors have an unusual weakness mechanic. While they are weak to crushing attacks, (melee) themselves, their mirages are weak to thrown attacks (ranged). Since you will be hit with accuracy reducing debuffs, it is possible to miss even with an overload and level 95 leech curses if using one combat style. It might be preferable to bring both melee and ranged weapons.

Trivia[]

  • If a player's initial attack against a Camel Warrior misses, it will not retaliate.
  • The artwork's portrayal of the Camel Warrior smoking may be a reference to the Camel cigarette brand.
  • The name "Ugthanatos" is a portmanteau of ugthanki and Θάνατος (thanatos), meaning "death" in Greek.
  • Prior to 28 November 2016, the Camel Warrior's mirages did not give combat experience upon death.
  • As of 1 February 2018, the highest kill count for this monster was 4,616 kills[3].
    • This had not increased by 6 May 2018.[4]
