For the monster from the Fremennik Saga, see Brute (Thok Your Block Off).
[FAQ] • [doc]

Brutes are Dungeoneering monsters that reside in Daemonheim. They are members of the Rammernaut Guard. They can hit very high with melee. They take up 2x2 floor tiles.

Being melee fighters, brutes are primarily very weak to magic, specifically water spells. It is recommended to use the Protect from Melee prayer or Deflect Melee curse to reduce their damage, as they can hit very hard and fairly accurately. Another technique is to trap them behind obstacles as they have a body size that can be easily trapped.

A brute appears in the quest Salt in the Wound.

Originally, they could not be walked through, unlike most monsters. However, this has since been changed, and Brutes are now passable.

Brutes are not affected by the passive effect of the shadow silk hood.

Monster-specific dropsEdit

These monsters can drop various mauls. The maul that is dropped corresponds to the brute's combat level, not the maul that they are wielding. For example, only the highest level brutes can drop promethium mauls. The guard room key is only dropped by brutes in the sleeping guard room.

Other DropsEdit

Please note that the quantities and rarities are random. Dropped food will usually be the second best you can fish and cook, and drops in general will become less generous as you progress.
Torn bags
Please note that non-members can receive torn bags as well, although they can only sell them (or alchemise).

  • It's possible that Brutes were bred by Bilrach as mentioned in Part 14 of the Chronicles of Bilrach, since he described the creatures he bred as having the "strength of the giants, the skin of the goblin and the size and basic intelligence of a human". The fact that Brutes are only found in Daemonheim further supports this.
  • Despite having a level 198 variant (in which Forgotten warriors, mages and rangers using tier 11 equipment are), level 128 Brutes wield Promethium instead of Primal mauls. It is unknown if this was intended or not.
  • Brutes are the only monsters that have armour that is not related to their combat level. For example, a level 198 Brute may have a grey-white like colour on their armour, which indicates they are using Gorgonite equipment. Despite this, the equipment will still provide the defensive bonuses of a Primal equipment.
