Broad-tipped bolts

From the RuneScape Wiki, the wiki for all things RuneScape

Broad-tipped bolts can be used for slaying Kurasks and Turoths with the Ranged skill. They are the crossbow equivalent of broad arrows, but in contrast to Broad arrows they cannot be purchased with coins from Slayer Masters but instead can be obtained by exchanging 35 Slayer reward points. They can be player made using the Fletching skill by adding feathers to unfinished broad bolts after purchasing the ability to fletch them for 300 Slayer reward points. They are also available from monster drops and can be purchased on the Grand Exchange.

Broad-tipped bolts are fletched 10 at a time and give 3 fletching experience per bolt, or 30 experience per set of 10.

Broad-tipped bolts are only usable by players with a slayer level of at least 55 and a ranging level of at least 50. However, players must have a Rune crossbow equipped to fire broad-tipped bolts. This means that the range requirement to use broad-tipped bolts is actually level 61.

Many people use Broad-tipped bolts for training and general ranging because they are as strong as Adamant bolts but for a long time have been cheaper. Recently, however, the bolts have been raising in price dramatically. Chances are that they will continue to rise in price until they are just below the price of Adamant bolts at 241 coins. Contrary to popular belief, bolts are not rising in price due to merchanting, but because of the removal of infinite stock at Slayer masters.

[edit] Trivia

  • Upon their release no slayer level was required to use them; this was an oversight and has since been fixed.
  • After the "Pre-purchase advice and more" update on 25 March 2009, it's proven that Broad Bolts are just as strong as adamant bolts, both having a +100 Ranged Strength bonus.
  • On the 9th of July 2009 the Broad-tipped-bolts had their stack images updated to look "neater".
  • There's no more infinite stock available at the Slayers' Masters shop. Only a quantity of 3,000 (unfinished) bolts.
