The black unicorn is a slightly more dangerous version of the Unicorn. These creatures are aggressive to all level players when in the Wilderness, but are low-levelled, so they won't affect high levelled players much. They are a very easy way to obtain Unicorn horns in decent quantities, as they are present in greater numbers than basic unicorns, though when you complete the achievement in the Fremennik area a message box appears saying "endangered species". They also have have a faster spawn rate and tend to walk around quite a bit in their area, and will sometimes run away when their health is low. There is usually a small number of black unicorn foals mixed into the herd. The foals rarely drop unicorn horns.

The black unicorn hide from Fur 'n' Seek is dropped by this creature. During the quest, it must be collected by killing these creatures until one drops the item, then cleaned and brought to the Odd Old Man.

Unicorn horns are an easy source for wealth, so hunting them is a popular activity. Although it isn't always assured that a black unicorn will drop a unicorn horn, it is very unusual not to receive a horn.

• Levels 10-17 Wilderness, southwest of the Wilderness volcano. There are around 10 unicorns here.
• Fremennik Province
  • East of Rellekka, north west of the Swaying tree at the rare tree icon ().
  • South of the mountainside entrance to Keldagrim. Only 2 here are actual unicorns, the rest are unicorn foals that might not always drop horns.
