The black defender is the fourth weakest defender. It is held in the off-hand in place of a shield. It requires 25 Attack and 25 Defence to wield. The black defender is dropped by Cyclopes on the top floor of the Warriors' Guild, but only once the player has obtained a Steel defender. It is only practically used to kill the Tormented wraith, other than that it's only useful to obtain the next defender: Mithril.

As with all black equipment, this item cannot be made from raw materials using the Smithing skill.
