Black demons are large monsters that inhabit a few dungeons across RuneScape. They are combat level 172, jet-black, and have a melee attack that can hit up to 16, or up to 20 on Familiars. They are much stronger than their Greater Demon cousins. They are often assigned by Sumona and Duradel as Slayer tasks, and a good way to kill them is to bring Prayer-boosting gear and Prayer potions, and use the Protect from Melee prayer. The player can also use the Guthan's set set to negate the need for food or prayer potions. It is suggested to fight the lower level creatures next to the Black demons to replenish the player's health without any risks. Still, it's recommended to have at least some food (sharks or better) just in case of an emergency.
Like other demons, they are affected by the magical abilities of Silverlight and Darklight, and can be ranged with Holy Water.

Black demons inhabit the following locations:
- The deeper half of Taverley Dungeon
- Underneath Edgeville, in the Wilderness section of the dungeon
- Chaos Tunnels-- it is recommended that you kill them here if you want more charms, look out here because it is a multi-combat area
- Brimhaven Dungeon, right before the Iron and Steel dragons, and with the Bronze dragons.
In each location is at least one safespot from which the demons can be fought safely with Ranged, Magic or a halberd.
[edit] Tactics
A common method of fighting them is to mage or range these at Taverley dungeon, as there are a lot of safe spots behind stalagmites and walls. Another tactic to fight them is to use a cannon combined with full guthan to heal. A common way that players use to fight them is to use prayer potions; Wear armour that gives a good prayer bonus such as proselyte, and fight while the Protect from melee prayer is on. This is a good way for players with a high level prayer (55+) and if you need to kill a lot for slayer tasks. You can also fight Black Demons in the Chaos Tunnels, where due to a lack of space, it is possible to safespot them on the northern side of the cave by the sack pile, where they cannot get to you.

It should be noted that, while the Black demons drops may seem very good, they drop low amounts of coins extremely often, making killing them for any other reason than a slayer assignment not worth the trouble most of the time.

- Most black demons were level 156 in RuneScape Classic. The boss of the Grand Tree quest was level 175. It was the strongest quest monster until the release of the Legends quest.
- The spelling of the regular demon is Black demon with lowercase second word. However for The Grand Tree quest, it is spelled Black Demon with 2 uppercase words.
- Slayer Masters say that the Black demon is the strongest demon. This is, however, untrue, the tormented demon and K'ril Tsutsaroth (from godwars) is a higher level and has a higher max hit.
