A Bat was one of the pets taken from the cage in Betty's Dungeon during the Swept Away quest. This was one of the animals that were already in the right cage so you didn't need to move it around along with the snail. If you were holding any of the animals while trying to go into a room with another animal in it the animal you were holding would be returned to its cage in the original room.
