Barrows equipment
From the RuneScape Wiki, the wiki for all things RuneScape
The Barrows equipment is rewarded to players from the Barrows minigame. There are six sets of Barrows equipment: four for warriors, one for rangers, and one for mages. When a player wears all of the items of a Barrows set, it has a set effect which is listed below after the bolded name of the set's special. Barrows sets can't be made using the Smithing skill.
The main problem with the armour is that as the equipment is used, its status (found after the item's name) depletes until it reaches 0, at which point it is unusable until the player repairs it for a sum of 330k (100k for weapons, 90k for bodies, 80k for legs/skirts, and 60k for the headwear) with NPCs such as Bob in Lumbridge and Squire (Void Knights) at the Outpost. In addition, barrows items can only be traded when they have not been used (no number behind the name of item) or when at 0 percent. Note: Barrows armour can be repaired with Bob even if it is not fully broken.
If a player has a workshop with an Armour stand in their house, they can repair the armour for less money, the discount based on the player's Smithing level. This discount is worked out using the following formula: smithing level/200 off the regular price. For example, a level 50 smither gets 50/200 or 1/4 discount and a 99 smither after operating the smithing cape would get half price.
| Costs to repair barrows equipment | NPC's | POH Workshop | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Level 1 Smithing | Level 99 Smithing | ||
| Helms | 60,000 | 59,700 | 30,300 |
| Bodies | 90,000 | 89,550 | 45,450 |
| Legs | 80,000 | 79,600 | 40,400 |
| Weapons | 100,000 | 99,500 | 50,500 |
| The price is exact 50% when operating a player's Smithing cape. | |||
Players can also buy gloves resembling Barrows armour after full completion of Recipe for disaster quest. However these don't need to be repaired.
Note: All barrows equipment will get to "0" after 15 hours of combat use only, not when not wearing it.
WARNING!! : If you drop any of the Barrows items, the item will automatically deplete to 0. Although it WILL tell you if you drop it will break(deplete to 0), it will also let you choose to drop it still or keep it.

[edit] Dharok the Wretched (Melee)
70 Defence is required to wear the armour and 70 Attack and Strength are required to wield the weapon. Dharok's is the Strength armour.
Many players use Dharoks against the portals in Pest Control because it can do massive damage and usually hit over double what you can usually hit. To make this work they must have a low health so players usually drop nitroglycerin, Chemical compound, drink Zamorak Potions or go for the Splatters at pest control, to deplete their hitpoints. Dharoks was occasionally used for PKing as well as duelling as it has exceptional defence bonuses, and a deadly set effect.
Wretched Strength: Attacks do more damage as the player's hitpoints decrease, your strength will be doubled when under 10% health. It has been known that under the correct circumstances, the attacks can deal over 100 damage with this set.

[edit] Torag the Corrupted (Melee)
70 Defence is required to wear the armour and 70 Attack and 70 Strength is required to wield the weapon. Torag's is the Defence armour, as full Torag carries the highest overall defence bonuses.
Corruption: Successful melee attacks have a chance of lowering the victim's run energy by 20%.
- Players usually ignore having full Torag's usually because the special is not much help, so usually full Torag is sold "No hams" (without hammers).

[edit] Guthan the Infested (Melee)
70 Defence is required to wear the armour and 70 Attack is required to wield the weapon. Guthan's is the Hitpoints armour. It is not advised to only buy armour because of the cost and the special attack it gives.
Infestation: Successful attacks have a chance of replenishing the player's health by the damage caused, on a 1:1 ratio.
Many players use full Guthans when attempting the TzHaar Fight Caves Minigame as it will save food. It is also popular with high level players for training because no food is needed.
A common strategy for Guthan users is to use an Abyssal whip and a Rune defender, then switch to Guthan's warspear when they run short on health. This is efficient because Guthan's warspear does not deal damage effectively. It is also common to train with normal combat armour on and, when health is needed, to switch out the entire armour set for Guthan's (because Guthan's means you need essentially no food, having a slightly lower defense bonus is not important). Using this method, the armour degrades much more slowly and less money is needed to get it repaired.

[edit] Verac the Defiled (Melee)
70 Defence is required to wear the armour and 70 Attack is required to wield the weapon. Verac's is the Prayer armour.
Defiler: Successful attacks have a chance of ignoring any armour and prayers, causing potential heavy damage, which makes it very useful and somewhat famous fighting in the Duel Arena, Fight Pits, and killing the Kalphite Queen.

[edit] Karil the Tainted (Ranged)
70 Defence and 70 Ranged are required to wear the armour, and 70 Ranged is required to wield the weapon. Karil's is the Ranged armour. Karils has the highest Magic defence of all the Barrows equiptment.
Tainted Shot: Successful ranged attacks have a chance of lowering the enemy's agility level by 20%. Many players have complained in the past for a replacement set effect but to no avail. A lot of players were annoyed when they found out that this armour has less defence than full black dragon hide with a blessed coif.
