Barfy Bill is a pirate located in Lumbridge. He helps players by telling them the basics of canoes. He explains basic information about the various canoes you can make at different Woodcutting levels. He also tells players that in order to use the transportation method of canoes, they must first cut down the tree next to the canoe station and shape the fallen tree on the canoe station, all with the woodcutting skill. With the 15 February 2011 update that made canoes available to free-to-play, it is also no longer necessary to have a hatchet to make a canoe - Barfy Bill will lend you his hatchet for free, and you will automatically return the hatchet when you are finished constructing the canoe. His hatchet appears to be rune when he gives it to you, and bronze when you return it to him. He is one of the five canoe instructors.

His appearance was updated along with the Court Cases: Back in Session update.

Barfy Bill was a sea captain. He bought a ship and was planning to make a fortune running her a merchant vessel. He is still not sailing, because of chronic sea sickness. His first, and only, voyage was spent "dry heaving over the rails". He says if he knew about the sea sickness, he would have saved himself a lot of money. Besides, his ship had a "little fire related" problem. Fortunately he says it was well insured.

He didn't have to work anymore, so he taken on canoeing on the river. He says he doesn't get river sick, though his examine text implies he looks a little green around the gills.
